Delegates of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Amenfi West Constituency have elected Mr Eric Afful as the parliamentary candidate for the impending bye-election slated for December 15.
Mr Afful, a cocoa purchasing clerk, polled 1,089 to defeat five other contestants at the party’s primary held on Tuesday, November 17.
Mr Gordon Kofi Sarfo Adu polled 1.020 votes to place second while John Eddie Armoo polled 874 votes to place third respectively.
Mr George Dadzie Junior had 869 votes; Gerald Dankwa had 241 votes; while Peter Addo Kwasi polled 233 votes with 85 rejected ballots.
In all, 4,402 delegates cast their votes out of 7,757 eligible voters who were expected to vote in the party’s primary.
The election was supervised by Mr Prosper Dedi, the District Electoral Officer, and was supported by the party’s election committee.
The bye-election became necessary following the unexpected demise of the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Mr John Gyetua last month, after a protracted ailment.
