The hurling of stones at the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, is wrong and underpins the need for more public education on how to conduct politics in a decorous and mutually respectful way, Irbard Ibrahim, Security Analyst and Peace Ambassador, has said.
On Wednesday October 5, an unidentified person in the crowd at an NPP rally at Osu hurled a missile at the opposition leader.
Mr Akufo-Addo was on the second leg of his tour of the Greater Accra Region which earlier took him to Alajo in the Ayawaso Central constituency and subsequently to Osu Klottey Korle on Wednesday, October 5.
The three-time presidential aspirant had told party faithful of the need to vote out President Mahama and the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) following their alleged mismanagement of the economy and to give him a chance to become president to reverse the hardship foisted on Ghanaians by the government.
But as the 72-year-old began to plead with supporters to also vote for the NPP’s parliamentary aspirant for the area, Philip Addison, he was compelled to pause his delivery, turning to complain to those beside him on the platform that someone had hit him with a stone.
“Someone just threw a stone at me, why?” he asked. But he quickly resumed his delivery, saying: “No problem, this is our politics in Ghana.”
Irbard Ibrahim, in a statement issued on Friday October 7, said: “Even though the sad episode was not life-threatening to the statesman, I condemn such an act regardless of who was behind it. I call for dignified treatment of all presidential and parliamentary candidates who have sacrificed their lives, exposed their families to criticism, and have invested time and energy to serve this great Republic.
“I also announce that God-willing, I will attend the NPP's manifesto launch in Accra as an independent observer just as I did the NDC's campaign launch in Cape Coast. As we all get ready for the general election in two months' time, let's all renew our commitment to the peace, security, and stability of our motherland Ghana.”

Does anyone really believe that Nana Ado was stoned?? The man is either delusional or soo desperate to the extent that he will do anything to get the votes including sympathy votes. Ghanaians should study the footage very well and they will know his allegation was a hoax to win sympathy vote. #SAYNOTOFALSEALEGATIONS
I find it very strange and difficult to believe that a stone was cast at Nana Addo in the midst of people surrounding him on the stage without any of them seeing the stone. Neither did anyone in the crowd see it; very strange. Neither was the alleged stone picked and showed to the crowd as an evidence. To me it was a stage-managed act just to win public sympathy which is at its lowest ebb. Nana Addo and his NPP have lost it all in this year's presidential election. I feel sorry for them.
What evidence do you have that nana addo was stoned. The man was trying to lie for people to have sympathy for him. I am amazed NDC communicators have not latched on this to their advantage. I would have spoken about the stone throwing lies over and over again to my advantage. Ghana doesn't need a liar for president.
THIS NOT TRUE WHO SAW IT NANA ATAGWE ***barred word***
ONE MORE STONE AT OUR NEXT PRESIDENT AND WE WILL SHOOT AT MAHAMA!!! NO MORE OF THIS NDC-INSPIRED ***barred word***. WE ARE NOT AFRAID OF YOU AND YOUR GANG OF BRIGANDS. WE ARE STILL WAITING FOR THE MILLS AUTOPSY REPORT!!! YOU THINK WE DONT KNOW THAT YOU HIRED BUKOM BANKU TO DO THE DIRTY WORK? WE WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO START AGAIN WITH OUR NEXT PRESIDENT!!!!
IT IS ONLY A PERSON WITH LOW IQ WHO WILL TRY TO JUSTIFY SUCH AN INCIDENT AND THE PERSON WHO THREW THE STONE IS A COWARD THAT WHY THIS COUNTRY IS STILL MARKING TIME AS A DEVELOPING COUNTRY AND NOT A DEVELOPED COUNTRY WHILES IT TOOK COUNTRIES LIKE MALAYSIA JUST 20YRS TO BE A DEVELOPED ONE AND THE UAE 15YRS BUT GHANA STILL LANGUISH IN ABJECT POVERTY
All die be die. What has he to fear if he is planing evil? Bringing in Serbians and South African mercenaries to train his people? Stones were thrown at President Mahaha around Ejisu. nana has to taste and feel it.
This is certainly not right. We must all desist from attacking our politicians no matter where they are coming from. We all have to mature and do our politics in a civilised manner.
IF IT IS WRONG THEN THE gods MUST BE CRAZY. AKUFFO ADDO IS THE ONLY ONE WHO SAW AND FELT THE STONE, JUST AS GOLLIATH TO DAVID'S STONE. AND AS THE PHILISTINES DID NOT THINK IT IS NORMAL IN THE POLITICS OF THE NEGEV, AKUFFO ADDO THINKS IT IS NORMAL IN GHANA POLITICS. WHAT AN IRONY..... THAT IS WHY THEY GO ON RADIO AND TV TO GLORIFY THE ACT OF PELTING A PRESIDENTIAL CONVOY WITH STONES. SO HOW CAN YOU IRBAD SAY IT IS WRONG WHEN THE VICTIM THINKS IT IS NORMAL.
Hypocrite
