The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is considering going for early congress to elect new national executives that will steer the affairs of the party for the next four years.
The proposed early congress is to enable the new leadership of the umbrella family have ample time to settle down and come up with strategies that will help them recapture power from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The NDC performed fairly woefully in the just ended presidential and parliamentary polls with their party faithful accusing their leadership of letting them down.
In the Presidential poll, incumbent President John Dramani who represented the NDC, polled 4,713,277, representing 44.43% to surrender power to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who polled 5,716,026, representing 53.85% of the total valid votes cast.
Ever since the Electoral Commissioner, Charlotte Osei pronounced Nana Akufo-Addo, the President-elect of the Republic of Ghana, some party stalwarts have taken to the airwaves to launch verbal attacks on people they suspect were behind the party’s defeat.
Inside sources say the party alarmed by the frustrations being expressed by their aggrieved members in public, may be forced to go for an early congress where a new leadership of the party formed.
The party is expected to hold its National Congress in 2018, a year after the swearing in of the incoming President.
But highly placed sources say the stalwarts are considering an early congress in 2017 since 2018 will be too long a time considering their quest to recapture power from the NPP.
Article 21 of the Constitution of the NDC states that
“There shall be a Congress of the Party to be held once every four years as the National Congress which shall be the highest decision making body of the Party.
“The National Congress shall be convened by the General Secretary acting on the direction of the National Executive Committee stating the date and venue.”
This website is reliably informed that the thought of an early congress is gaining some momentum with a lot of party stalwarts buying into the idea.

I think is the best news I have heard cos it is going to help the party win the 2020 general elections.Ɛyɛ zo
Please, we are freedom fighters. Never dream of coming to power again. We are tired of your hell and economic hardships and busing people from neighboring countries to come and vote for you then you pay them with our taxes. Mr Bokor of NDC, a propaganda columnist never believed of industrialization until NPP talked about it. How can a nation develop without factories. What work will the people do? From the time immemorial NDC government has never planted trees never do you enact laws to protect our rivers. You're destroying our country. NPP Victory is Victory over superstition, lies, ignorance, propaganda, triba politics. We are free forever.
RASH DECISION IS UNWISE DECISION
Fooooooooooooooooooooooooools
Earlier the better please. (no sharp teethes please)
they can choose to go to congress in a week time after the swearing in of H.E Pres.NADAA,they gonna loose 2020 election n remain in opposition forever
But peacefmonline, what has these azar painted faces and borrowed wigs got to do with early congress.
The NDC still don't get it on how they lost miserably. They still think the infrastructure message was enough to win them the 2016 elections.Majority of Ghanaians were living in Mahama hell. The insults from their babies with sharp teeth was very irritating to many Ghanaians.Whenever any Ghanaian complained about the economic hardship he/she was tagged as NPP person.Worse was the personal attacks on their main opponents. They should go for their money and vehicle from those journalists who deceived them with fake polls
I would rather suggest that you allow the dust to settle before taking any decision to hold a congress. Mind you people are aggrieved and may take hasty decision to appoint leaders/executives who will not be able to help realize your dreams. Time heals wounds, hence, allow a little time to ponder on why the lost even occasioned in the first place and stop the blame game. You think it's easy.
Where is Koku Anyidoho? He talks like he is the owner of Ghana. I believe he is now learning the lessons of life as old as he is. NDC like they told the NPP should be thinking of power at least the next 8 years and if NPP does well your guess is as good as mine.
