The National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammi Awuku, has said the party approached the just-ended presidential and parliamentary elections the “African way”, rather than the “European way”, hence its historic victory.
According to him, the European way of approaching an election is when the parties involved go to sleep after voting, trusting that the electoral system would handle the process, whereas the African way is sacrificing sleep and being extra vigilant throughout the process.
The NPP opted for the latter in the December polls, he said.
The NPP won the presidential elections with 5,716,026 votes, representing 53.85 per cent, whereas the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) managed to poll 4,713,277 votes, representing 44.40%. At the parliamentary level, the NPP won 170 seats whereas the NDC won 105.
Speaking in relation to this historic victory on Asempa FM Friday December 23, Mr Awuku said: “This time round we did not approach the elections the European way because we have done it before and suffered for it. This time we approached it the African way.
“The European way is when you vote and sleep in the comfort of your home trusting that the system will work perfectly. After losing, you go round blaming people and in the end say: ‘this is democracy’ and all of that. We have done that before but we suffered for it, so we did not opt for that approach this year.”

rawlings and the inward togbe helped expose the wining ways of ndc am suprised ndc party members were sitting unconcerned number nine will still be number nine no matter what. rawlingse has forgotten that there was over voting in ashanti region. ndc should asked rawlingse what about that.now let see how many ewes will benefit from appointment in npp government apart from the togbe and close associates of rawlingses
Thank ex president rawlings for helping your party win because of his selfishness. the rawlingses will live to regret. rawlings have forgetten that human beings helped him rule ghana, forgotten that boakye gyan of afrc helped him, forgotten that tsikatas helped him and his wife out of trouble and many more. evil to who evil he thinks. follow nana addo and say big thank you to rawlingses. very soon there would alqeeda style in ghana burning of substation to add to dumso, burning market to create confusion and disaffection for mahama
Kindly stop talking too much about this. It was God more than anything to has removed the curse of this regime from us not your vigilance. I'm beginning to sense your words will bring disfavour to this party. Be magnanimous in victory so we don't look like we are poking fun at them.
Stop bragging because NPP won the elections as a result of the abysmal failing of the Mahama NDC government. It is not because NPP conducted any special campaign.
The NDC were seriously assured by the EC that they were going to win the election by every foul means, thats why they were not campaigning but rather employing people to insulting and defaming Nana Addo. How can a serious EC be complaining of over-voting when no political party has complained?Me for instance,I voted for NPP because of that Mugabe.
Awuku is still obsessed with the elections. Get over it and work for the success of you nkokorafo government.
