Outgoing Sports Minister, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuije has admitted that “comfortable lead” which emerged as one of the most popular refrains in the heat of the collation of results in the 2016 election was to “assuage the frustrations of supporters” of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Taking his turn on Starr Chat with Bola Ray on Accra-based Starr 103.5FM Wednesday, Vanderpuije who is also Member of Parliament for Odododiodoo said the statement made by Joyce Bawa, campaign spokesperson for the John Mahama campaign on the night of election day December 7 was strategically made to buy time and calm nerves as defeat stared the unsuspecting party faithful.
“Let me say that it was strategic. I’ve come to see that it was strategic. We have what we call the boomerang effect; when the expectations of people are so high, if you are not careful and you don’t manage the expectation, and their frustration comes in, they could vent.”
‘We’re in a comfortable lead’ is to “assuage the frustration of the supporters. [It was] to minimise their frustration because the anger that would have come with the straight [admittance] that we have lost, people would have committed suicide,” he said.
The outspoken politician added: “Even with this, we have reports of people committing suicide. Yes, I’ve heard of about three across the country. People could just not stand it… Even me, I broke down.”
Incumbent President John Mahama eventually conceded defeat to main rival Nana Akufo-Addo of the NPP later in the evening of Friday, December 9 as the latter had taken a commanding lead of over a million votes difference with four of the 275 constituencies unaccounted for.
The President-elect, Nana Addo will take the oath of office to officially assume his position on January 7, 2017.

The NDC was hoping to rig the election with the help of the electoral commission. Ben Epson's polls and Kwasi Pratt's comment on making ambulances available for NPP Leaders & supporters when the NPP candidate is declared loser by the EC in the 2016 election were part of the scheme to prepare the minds of Ghanaians to accept their faked results when declared. Both Ben Epson & Kwasi Pratt new about the evil rigging plan of the NDC, that was why they both spoke the way they did. I urge Ghanaian not to take these 2 guys serious anymore. God has exposed them big time. Do these 2 guys still left with any credibility? Only God knows.
Everything NDC is dangerous. These 1ddi00tts are a desperate bunch of annimals
comfortable lead strategy was very dangerous and e.v.i.l on the part of the corrupt NDC party...You must first love your country before your party.
An As St-up!d as they were, They believe you. Thats why we have suffered in Ghana that much. They dont even have a mind of their own to work out the simple maths that they have lost. They Needed they diabolic leaders to continue to lie to them as usual that even with 44% they were going to win. At one point , General mosquito in responding to a question on how they are winning when they had lost in Parliament, He insisted that they will learn to Rule even in that state thinking they could rig the elections with the EC. As someone had already said, These crop of ND guys are so wicked and cruel and have nothing good in them. They are just evil and one cannot imagine how they assembled together like that.
@GOMEZ: Hmmm that has been my prayer too. NPP cannot govern forever but the NDC is also not an alternative. We really need to pray for a better alternative to NPP for the good of Ghana. The NDC is so full of evi1 minded people. It is so shocking. It is as if they were carefully selected and assembled. Sometimes I pity the VERY FEW good people in the party. For now the party has been taken over by those with pure evi1 minds and the good ones in the party have no say. LORD HAVE MERCY!!!
Lante Vanderpuije thought Ghana belongs to the NDC
Comfortable lead was strategy to minimise frustrations of ndc party faith ph00ls - Nii lantey vanterpuyie
Folks, do you remember Vincent Asiseh of blessed memory who once served in the ndc executive said, ' The ndc is an election rigging machinery and not a political party. I rest my case.
How could you have won 2016 elections? Inspite of ur massive corruption s. It means u were planning corruption of the result. God have mercy on u and ur party. Selfishness is what u are!
I have said severally on this platform that NDC only wins elections in 8 out of 10 Regions by rigging with the connivance of EC. It started from 2008 elections. This diabolic trend was to continue to 2016 elections, but hey, NPP outsmarted them. To many, like my good self, who were disappointed by the Supreme Court verdict on the 2012 elections petition, and subsequent advice given by Justice Atuguba that Elections are won at polling stations, I have now come to understand this piece of advice and so has NPP. When NPP took this advice in good faith and acted on it, The results is what we witnessed. NPP won in not the only 2 regions, but impressively 6. Even Prez Kufuor won in 5 regions. So, now we have every reason to believe that NDC colludes with EC to rig elections. No other party does that. THE BATTLE IS STILL THE LORD'S.
