The 1st vice chairman of the NPP in the Eastern Region has called on president Nana Akufo Addo to sack Dr. Ishahaku, the current Bank of Ghana Governor in order to rescue the marathon depreciating cedi.
He made the call in an interview with KW Radio’s during a weekend socio-political talk show dubbed “Board Issues” Saturday, 18th March 2017, in Kpong.
Alhaji Umar Bodinga is of the opinion that since Dr. Ishahaku contested on NDC party ticket as parliamentary candidate for Sabongida in the 2000 general elections, he could have the tendency of sabotaging the government.
Former president John Dramani Mahama appointed Dr. Ishahaku as acting Governor of the nation’s Central Bank after the retirement of Dr. Kofi Wampah, but just after the 2016 general elections, the former President made the appointment substantive.
This the NPP chairman believes is a diabolical plan by the NDC to make the New Patriotic Party government unpopular in handling the local currency.
“That is the reason why at the peak of the elections when NDC was about to leave power president Mahama brought Dr. Ishahaku to be governor of Bank of Ghana. The Cedi is depreciating because of the diabolic agenda of NDC member being the governor.”
He, therefore, called on President Akufo Addo to sack the Governor and bring in a competent person to put in place fiscal measures that would see the Cedi appreciating.

Sobavia! You are a tribal bigot. So you are happy that NDC would always make sure all the 3 governors are non akan. You the akans who think you know better and for that matter do not want to wage into pushing the akans ahead would live to regret one day. Go to BOG, ADB, NIB, GCB and all other government institution and see how akans have been marginalized the e.w.e..s.mislead you into thinking that we are all one. It is never true. How many e.w..es employ akans in thier businesses. But look at the other way round
Mr Bodinga plse don't display your ignorance in public again u re supposed to be a chairman n not a foot soldier President John Dramani Mahama appointed Dr. Abdul-Nashiru Issahaku as Governor of the Central Bank. He replaced Dr. Kofi Wampah who was proceeding on leave prior to retirement. Dr. Issahaku, until his appointment, was a Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana. His appointment was effective, April 04, 2016 and not after no election common..why do u people do politics with everything in this country. Source: Flagstaff House Communications Bureau
Did you check the chairman's name before labeling him akan tribalist? His name is Alhaji Umar Bodinga if you care to know. This shows where you are coming from. And where have you heard in economics practise or theory that political promises causes people to hoarde foreign currencies? It is the NDC who when they saw they have lost started hoarding dollars and they could have been helped by the governor. Even Akua Donkor who was nobody in NDC had $30,000 cash stolen when he was going to save it abroad. Imagine what the bigwigs have hoarded. Government has signaled his ideas through the budget and government impacts the fiscus; the central bank policies are the ones that impact on money supply, exchange rate, interest rate and inflation targets
I thought most npp supporters are literates but it looks as if few are literates and more are illiterate. The governor of bank of Ghana can only resign but not be removed by the president. If I were the governor, I would resign and leave them to do their own thing, because as it is, they would blame him for their failure. The governor is not a police man to arrest the cedi. The economic management team is now being headed by barwumia, the genius, so one would have thought he would be able to arrest the cedi even if the governor is not doing so. Barwumia was once a deputy governor, so why doesn't he take charge and help the governor arrest the cedi if it is so easy as some of the npp illiterate want us to believe. Only two months in office they cannot stand the heat.
supported and should be done quickly. the man could sabotage any attempt by the govt to save the the situation since he holds a different political view. there is no way u can work with such a person. not sure he has not be changed since. the only thing they know how to do is pumping dollars into the market and turn around to buy it themselves. the BoG position is a very delicate position and u need someone who holds the same political views as u and who u can also trust his competence. sack him pls!
Yes! and replace him with an Akan. Then the cedi will become 1:1 with the US Dollar. Same people who call Trump a racist, practising the very same concept in their neck of the woods without realizing it. A bunch of h ypoc rites. This NPP man is simply s tu pi d to think that sacking the BOG Chairman will improve the value of the cedi. Here is a piece of education, Chairman D umm y. The value of the cedi is determined by supply and demand. When the new NPP government made several promises without the obvious financial support, the market saw that the debt situation would worsen and it will be more expensive to acquire foreign exchange. Citizens therefore started hoarding foreign currency thereby making their supply low. To get the same US dollar, we now have to use more cedis, i.e. pay more for the same US dollar/Euro etc. That is what happens when politicians promise what they cant give. Now that you know, stop being an ***barred word*** trib a list, Mr. Chairman.
