Mahama Ayariga has come under serious criticisms after he rendered an apology many have described as ‘insincere’.
The Member of Parliament for Bawku Central was asked to apologise after he was found to be in contempt of the house.
He had alleged that the Chairman of the Appointments Committee, Joseph Osei-Owusu, through the minority chief whip, Muntaka Mubarak, had tried to bribe minority members of the committee, but which he was not able to prove before an ad hoc committee set up to investigate the matter.
Per the recommendations of the committee, Mahama Ayariga was supposed to “render an unqualified apology to the House, purging himself of contempt’.
After several protestations, the former Sports Minister stated that “Mr. Speaker if you say I should apologise, I apologise.” This apology has however not been accepted by the majority in Parliament as well as some political pundits.
Speaking in an interview on Saturday during Newsfile programme on Joy News channel, Mahama Ayariga saw nothing wrong with his style of apology.
According to him, he was asked to apologise and so he did.
“There was a decision by parliament that I should apologise so I apologised…I apologised but I don’t know if the speaker accepted it or not…“…the recommendations of the committee became the decision of the House and as a respectful member of the House, I then said… since you have already put the question and it has been voted and the decision has been voted and the decision has been taken that I should render an apology, I have to show respect to the 274 members sitting so if you say I should apologize, I hereby apologize.” .

Mahama Ayariga, you disappoint me as a NORTHERNER. Just step out of the un-august house, put the Koran aside, get some cola nuts, black fowl and .....leaves and invoke the names of our forebears to deliver INSTANT justice for or aqgainst you in this whole circus. You also have your name, image and reputation to redeem just like Joe Ghartey and the rest of the ***barred word*** brigade who have brougfht the whole house into disrepute. Ghanaians will never know the truth if you do not go 'local' and would want to exonerate yourself using the Koran. Yes, the truth will only be known going the way of our forefathers and not through mediums introduced to us by Arabs and Europeans. Get out there barechested, barefooted with your items in hand and a fresh calabash also in hand and see IF instant justice will not be delivered if we are sincere. People will die on their seats right there in the shameful house. Before colonization, our people knew God and justice; our so-called parliamentarians hide behind clauses, Bible and Koran to lie, cheat, steal from the people and each other and also covert peoples wives and girl friends. Be a man massa, and redeem yourself.
AYARIGA IS NOT A MERE OAF OO, HE IS A THIN/DIM WITTED OAF!!!!!!!
It's because of people like CC and the earlier commentators that we are not progressing as Ghanaians and Africans. Did you please actually listen to the report as read by the Hon. Joe Ghartey? Have you per se thought about the whole issue, right from when the Committee of enquiry was established? In my view the who investigation began on a wrong premise. Beside Hon. Joe Osei Owusu's complaint and Hon. Kweku Afriyie's statement in the House, did it occur to anybody that Hon. Ayariga and some of the accusers also wrote petitioning the Speaker for an investigation? Why didn't the House incorporate the petition of Ayariga and the other accusers if indeed it wanted to get to the bottom of the whole issue? They have rather tend to shroud the whole scandal into secrecy and created an unreasonable conundrum to label the issue a mystery. How could money passing hands become a mystery. It's so sad reading comments of people, which apparently seemed to espouse partisanship, as in NPP and NDC. We should wake up if indeed we want Ghana to thrive. A proper investigation should be conducted instead of trying to bully Ayariga to apologise. I guess it high time we rise against the rot of our Parliarmentarians and politicians who behave as if the live in Mass when their parties are in power.Infractions of this kind should not be allowed to just go. Somebody must act responsibly. The Minister caught up in this scandal shouldn't in the first place have been confirmed and sworn in as such if indeed the government was responsible. Joe Osei Owusu, Muntakar Mohammed and Ayariga in my view are all to resign safeguard the image of Ghanaians. Atleast they should show some patriotism and sense of honesty by saying they resign because their reptutions are muddied. But what do we see, the leaders what to protect their jobs, and Ayariga to can't decide to leave corrupt organisation, he's raised doubt on. God save our Homeland Ghana.
This man bears the the name of the worse people in Ghanaian politics. Mahama ana Ayariga and surely do not expect anything good to come out of him. Let him continue to bath in his arrogance, and I can assure him this will be his last time in parliament. Mr. If you say I should apologise I apologise.
Ghana will not progress if people like him aer allowed to hold positions of influence. The only recourse is for him to be expelled from the parliament and for Joe Osei-Wusu to take him to court for defamation. That is what has to be done.
AYARIGA IS DISGRACE TO HIS BAWKU CONSTITUENCY. HE IS ILLOGICALLL, INSINCEREEE, IMATUREEEE AND CORRUPT. DURING PRESIDENT MILLS TIME HIS CORRUPTTT CHARACTER SURFACED IN HIS DUBIOUS TRACTOR DEALINGS. HE IS INSINCERE AND UNTRUTHFULLL. WHEN HE LOST BAWKU SEAT HE HIDE BEHIND A FARMER TO MADE A CASE OF DUAL CITIZENSHIP AGAINST THE THEN BAWKU MP FOR HIM TO LOSE THE SEAT. HE IS ILLOGICALLL AND IMATURE BECAUSE AS A PARLIAMENTARIAN WHO HAD THE OOPORTUNITY TO MAKE A CASE IN PARLIAMENT AGAINST A MINISTER SUBJECTED TO VETTING AND HIS COLLEAGUE PARLIAMENTARIANS, HE CHOSE A RADIO STATION TO MAKE A SERIOUS AND UNFOUNDED BRIBERY ALLEGATION TO IMPLICATE THEM. ALL THESE CHARACTERISTICS REVEAL ABOUT HIM THAT HE CAN NOT THINK RIGHT TO DESERVE THE ATTRIBUTE HONOURABLE WHICH WE USE TO ADDRESS OUR PARLIAMENTARIANS. THOUGH ONE CANNOT SAY THAT HIS DEFECTIVE CHARACTER REFLECT THAT OF THE PEOPLE OF HIS CONSTITUENCY HIS CONTINUING REMAINING IN PARLIAMENTARY INDICATE THAT THE PEOPLE OF HIS CONSTITUENCY HAS NO BETTER PERSON OF REASONABLE CONDUCT TO REPRESENT THEM OR THEY ARE HAPPY WITH AYARIGA AS THEIR TRUE REFLECTION
NO WONDER HE IS AN NDC MP. THY ARE ALL THIN WITTED OAFS. MR SPEAKER SHOULD, IF POSSIBLE, EXPEL THIS OAF FROM THE AUGUST HOUSE OF PARLIAMENT. NDC, THE NATION-WRECKING CONTRAPTION OF A POLITICAL PARTY HAS NOTHING GOOD TO OFFER GHANAIANS, KPA!!!
AYARIGAH IS AN OAF!!!!!!
HIS APOLOGY WAS AN INSULT. IF IT IS POSSIBLE, HE SHOULD BE SACKED FROM OUR AUGUST PARLIAMENT. THE DEMONIC NDC HAS A LOT OF THIN/DIM WITTED OAFS IN THAT AUGUST HOUSE OF PARLIAMENT. MR SPEAKER, OVER TO YOU.
You should just resign or get sacked.
