NDC’s Juaben Yamoah Ponkoh has confessed to having paid a whooping amount of money to some assembly members in his bid to be a Municipal Chief Executive.
The former Municipal Chief Executive of Ejisu disclosed to NEAT FM’s morning show host Kwasi Aboagye that – he paid over GH¢300,000 to assembly members in his bid to occupy the position for the second time even though he was rejected twice.
“Even after collecting my money, they (the assembly members) voted against me… I took a loan to pay these members but they rejected me. I spent over ¢3 billion (Gh¢300,000) and I’m still paying” he said in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show dubbed ‘GHANA MONTIE’.
He explained that – “These are people coming from places that are far off and some have to eat and drink water among others.”
Mr. Ponko became an MEC during late president John Mills’ era but was fired during the John Mahama-led administration in July 2015 – he was later rejected twice by the assembly after the President Mahama reconsidered him for the post.
Giving an insight into what goes into the confirmation of MMDCEs following pockets of rejections of President Akufo-Addo’s nominees in some parts of the country, Ponkoh stressed “monecracy” rules at the local level, especially when it comes to confirmation of MMDCE nominees.
The former Municipal Chief Executive of Ejisu said he paid each member of the about 70-body assembly Gh¢1,500 per round to be voted as MCE, but the members deceived him – “It’s not easy… I’m still carrying that burden of servicing loans”

Why must you impose yourself on the people if they don't like you? Its like our leaders don't understand what it it is to be a leader. you could have used this money for something more beneficial and you will be remembered forever. God save our nation
You should be ashamed of yourself. A corrupt person like you. Yamoah, if you think you are dropping the ball just to expose the corrupt behavior of some NDC MPs and to get the peoples' empathy, you better forget about it. In the first place, giving a bribe for a public position shows how polluted and corrupt minded person you are. To be honest with you, I don't think you are a person of integrity and for that matter, you are unfit for any public office. Shame unto you.
Why are folks pretending it is not happening in now? Just look at how the MDCEs are being rejected. I heard some of the assembly members took as much as 2500 cedis and still rejected Nana Addo's nominees. God save Ghana
PONKOH instead of giving the money to IFANTI NEW TOWN and ASAFO boys to invest, just look into your family and see what can that money do for them.
So you were looking for the position to steal to pay back. Your salaries in 4 years wouldn't have been able to pay back. NDC OYIWA
And you are proud talking about it?
I do not know whether to laugh or to cry. With GHS300,000.00 this person could have established a business like a poultry farm or meat processing plant, employed some of the youth and contributed positively to the growth of the country. Instead he used it to pay bribes in the hope of securing a political position which in the end would have meant that he will have to engage in illegal activities to earn money to pay off the debt. No wonder Ghana borrowed so much money under the previous administration with almost nothing to show for it.
Please which financial institution did you take the loan from, Wofa Yamoah? They know its their own money(the Assembly)thus why they didn't vote for you. Wofa don't fight over spilled milk, please
Kwaa-aasea. It serves you right. Next time you won't bride anymore.
Another NDC cr!minal.... These NDC guys are nation wreckers...
