The former boss of the Volta River Authority (VRA) Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby has chided President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for surrendering to an emotional media coverage of the death of Major Maxwell Mahama.
According to Dr. Wereko-Brobby, the media coverage coerced the President to honor Mr. Mahama while neglecting other officers who died in similar circumstances.
The suspended NPP member also slammed the media describing it as unprofessional and irresponsible the manner in which it whipped up emotions of Ghanaians on the lynching of Major Mahama.
Dr. Wereko-Brobby who is leading a campaign for the state to give due recognition and attention to the family of Lance Corporal Robert Kumi Ackah, who was tragically shot by his own colleagues, said the President was pressured to act because of the attention the media gave to the military commander much to the neglect of the police officer.
Speaking in an interview with Starr News’ Regina Borley Bortey, Dr. Wereko-Brobby said it was wrong for government to have chosen to honour major Mahama and neglect the police officer who was also killed in the line of duty. “I resent the fact that the political class of this country did not treat two servicemen equally. Why would government go and issue GHC500, 000 and go over the top and visit families, justifiably, but I believe it should have been done equally.
“The media precipitated that whole thing and forced the government to respond…so [government] was forced by the media coverage and if the media had devoted even half of the kind of expression they put to the one I think government may have been forced to do the same thing.”

Police are killed in armed robbery
Police are killed in armed robbery raids and we don't give state burial. Hmmmmm. Were ok it will come.and haunt us one day. The army is more important than the police
My bewhiskered friend you seem to have lost steam since NPP won power. I notice you have stopped firing your epistles dissing the party as you did before the elections. Now this? The circumstances in which both officers lost their lives is totally different. Have you seen a video of how those vultures took an innocent man's life?I agree though that something must be done for the family of the deceased police officer.Another thing is that government must mount a campaign to stop people from taking the law into their own hands.Don't latch onto this to try and regain your shattered image. I suggest you learn from your good friend Dr Arthur Kennedy who now only writes on health and environmental issues.
I strongly support Dr. Wreko Brobey
Okay FM needs to groom those guys they bring in for that Entertainment Showbiz. Sometimes they behave and ask questions like lunatics. How does Abeiku feel when these guys come after all his hard work only to make his show sounds like one of them Mushroom Drive Times out there? Please give those guys some education to behave a bit civil. You can make people laugh and create fun without FO0OLISHNESS.
This man is sooooo stzup1dz that I won't say anything again
Capt Mahama was not honoured because he died in the line of duty. Do you know how many soldiers including senior officers who have died in the line of duty? The galamsay menace led to the officer's death and Ghanaians and foreigners have been arrested in that regard. Why have they not arrested the police who shot their colleague? Is it not because it was considered an accident? Don't compare the death of someone who was tortured to death with someone else who died through an accident. Werek BROBBEY should find something better to do than whip up sentiments against govt.
I support you 100%. People die in even more tragic circumstances everyday across the country and no one gives them a state burial or get government officials to visit the family. It is true that the attention the media gave to the issue means that the government had no option than to be seen to be part of the bandwagon and yes bandwagon because quite frankly that is what it was.
Is this guy correct?
