National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Tamale North Constituency, Hon. Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini has described the Free SHS policy as a mere strategy of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to win the next election.
According to him, the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy has nothing to do with quality education as it ought to, but rather the mindset of President Akufo-Addo and the ruling NPP is about maximising votes in the next elections to retain power.
Commenting on TV3's Morning Show on Wednesday regarding the annulment of 51 repeated students of Prempeh College by the Ghana Education Service (GES), Hon. Suhuyini indicated it is an act of intimidation against the headmaster of the school.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed the management of Prempeh Senior High School also known as Prempeh College in Kumasi to reverse its decision to repeat 51 first-year students at the end of the 2016/17 academic year because of poor performance.
It has further directed the management of the school to immediately draw up a remedial plan to support the affected students to enable them to complete their secondary education.
The affected students, some of whom have already left the school, are said to have failed in at least five subjects in the three terminal examinations of the last academic year, leading to their dismissal by the authorities of the school.
At the commencement of the 2017/2018 academic year, the authorities of the school were in a fix as to what to do with the affected students, following the introduction of the free SHS policy.
When some of the parents of the affected students heard reports of the dismissal of their children, they rushed to the school to discuss the fate of their children with the school authorities, but all staff members were tight-lipped on the issue.
But the former Radio Gold host of ‘Alhaji and Alhaji’ show stressed that many heads of the Senior High Schools are being intimidated to keep quiet about the happenings in the second cycle institutions since the inception of the Free SHS policy in order to sweep the challenges under carpet.
“I see the Free SHS policy to be the winning strategy of the NPP in the next elections and not that it is about quality education. There are so many challenges about the Free SHS policy and the headmasters are being intimidated not to talk about these challenges,” he indicated.
“When you go to the secondary schools, you will realise that students are sleeping on the floors because there are no student beds and their chop boxes are placed on the corridors,” the Tamale North NDC MP emphasized.
He however asserted that the happenings with the Free SHS policy have somehow vindicated President Mahama and the NDC as they canvassed for expansion of infrastructure in the education sector before the implementation of the Free SHS policy.

This guy is not a serious guy. How did he end up in Parliament btw? So all the so-called "Mahama achievements were meant for what if not winning elections?" Normally I don't go this way, but listening to him is like listening to the wind. He offers nothing sensible to national development. He is so soaked and drunk in propaganda and mischief that he has lost his sense of good reasoning. He is just bereft of ideas except to go the line that he is known for. #Freeshs is a good policy yet again by the same #NPP that brought NHIS, Youth Employment, Capitation, Free maternal care, discovered oil for Gh and the many sustainable policies of Gh which are thought in Gh universities and colleges. Why is NDC still allowed to contest elections in Gh btw? Well, I guess its because we all can't be brilliant huh. A disgraceful, pathetic, corrupt bunch of heads who can't think far beyond mediocrity!!!! Thats exactly what the NDC has over the years demonstrated. ***barred word*** and mediocrity!!!! I rest my case!!
Instead of thinking of the well-being of the future generation, you are thinking of YOUR OWN WELL_BEING at the future elections. Stuuuupiiiid Northern kwaashyia MP. Your moda!!!!
this foolisssh foooooool enjoyed free education in Tamale.
Is this guy trying to say that when Nana Addo and NPP were campaigning since 2008 with this free shs policy all they wanted was just to win 2020 elections and nothing else? so all they wanted to achieve was to win 2020 elections that is why they started preaching this good news from 2008? NPP and Nana Addo were not interested in winning 2008, 2012 and 2016 elections but the free SHS policy was only something for NPP to win 2020 elections. You see, Ghanaians are now more awake for any deception.
This fanatical NDC guy must be voted out of parliament in the next election...... He does not deserve to sit in that house......
OH "THESE PEOPLE!". NO MORE COMMENT. GO FIGURE!
The same man who is saying that there are issues with the free senior high would stand on public platform and say that Thomas Edison tried a thousand times before he was able to make the electric bulb. Please honourable note that the NPP would have waited till 2019 before they start implementing this policy.
Someone answer me this question: NDC always claim free shs wasn't possible because they wanted to expand facilities first. Suhyini is here saying students are sleeping in the floor. So how come Mahama's infrastructure only included DAY SCHOOLS? How would they cater for boarders? I think NDC has been subtly trying to influence parents to insist on boarding status even when it is not necessary.
How come only Northerners have a problem with the free SHS policy when they have had it for years? I dont get it.
Ironically if it were not for free education this ***barred word*** will be roaming the plains of Northern Region driving cattle. The beginning of every major intervention like this will face challenges. If Mahama 's true intensions were to start massive infrastructural development in the schools to shepherd free education, it would have taken him 200 years to complete his task.Suhini talk like the good Lord gifted you with a brain.
