Drivers for parliamentarians have expressed worry about their salaries and conditions of service.
According to them, there is no mechanisms in place to even ensure their safety as they go about their duties.
Speaking on Okay FM's 'Ade Akye Abia' Programme, spokesperson for the Members of Parliament Drivers', Addison Obodia explained that ever since they assumed responsibilities nothing has been done by Parliament or the leadership to ensure that they are well catered for.
He said some of the drivers receive a paltry amount of GHc 300 as salary without any allowance.
They are therefore appealing to their MPs to do something about it.
“In this day Ghana, collecting a salary of GHc 300 to GHc 500 a month is very bad. What are we going to do with that? That is what we are saying. We are not fighting with them. We are begging them that they should increase the salaries for us," he pleaded.
However, he said others are receiving far below expectation and will at the right time disclose the names of MPs who are underpaying their drivers.
He also expressed worry about how they are made to work more hours without any extra duty allowances, and stated that the MPs often use them without regard on weekends and even on public holidays.
The drivers further described the failure of the MPs to honour their SSNIT obligations as very unfortunate, following several debates they, the law makers, have made in the time past over issues concerning SSNIT contributions.
They are however appealing to government and parliament to institute a payment mechanism for them to enable them give meaning to their life.

Go get a taxi and drive. It is the fried rice and chicken and soda that u get to eat at events that's keeping u in that peanut job.
Well, Well,well...here we have the law makers breaking the laws! By an act of parliament it is criminal to pay the ssnit contribution of your workers! I hope these mps are aware of that?
Why do MPs need drivers for? They should be made to drive their own cars.
And these same MPs claim their salaries are not enough so they need more. Here in Europe MPs drive their own cars except when it is to an official event. Some even ride on public buses, trains and even bicycles to work, especially most in the Green Party members. MPs should get off their high horses and realize the country has no money. They stay in parliament and aid an abet to ridiculous contracts to pass, costing the government so much with going through the right procurement processes, money that could have been used for better causes. MPs also argue that they pay people's fees. Who asked them to do so. Is this part of their contract to parliament? Why should people have children and turn to MPs to take care of them. If people pay their taxes there will be enough money in the state coffers to support the needy. It is not the MPs role to do that, yet they do so afraid of losing elections which in my opinion equals to bribery. An honest, hardworking, dedicated politician should not be afraid of elections if he does what is right. If one is privileged and can afford to support people in the community that is fine but not at the expense of the public purse. Encourage people to be independent, get an education and learn a trade and stop waiting for handouts.
What? GhC300 as salary? Eii! Is only in the land of Ghana that one who sweat much take the least payment. Ah! Am very sad. Our leaders, we vote for you for Christ sake. How much is even one pair of shoe 👞 for a driver to wear and go to work? Pls think about us, if we couldn't school to the level of your education does not mean that if you are cheating as we will not know. God is watching us all.
