A Parish Priest of the Christ the King Church, in Accra, Rev. Father Andrew Campbell, has congratulated the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on some of the policy decisions he has taken since assuming office on 7th January, 2017, and urged him not to be disillusioned by his critics.
Congratulating President Akufo-Addo on the implementation of the Free Senior High School Policy, Rev. Father Andrew Campbell indicated that “as people involved in providing support to several needy children to get education, we are well placed to assess the impact of such a transformative policy on most families in Ghana, and also offer some comment.”
He continued, “Please, do not be disillusioned by your critics and the implementation difficulties you will encounter. Sir, you are on the right path and do have our full support.”
Rev. Father Campbell made this known on Wednesday, 3rd January, 2018, when he paid a courtesy call on President Akufo-Addo, at the Flagstaff House.
Touching on the President’s decision and action on illegal mining, popularly referred to as galamsey, Father Andrew Campbell acknowledged that though a very difficult decision to take, President Akufo-Addo has managed to implement it, and deserves commendation.
“Please see it to the very end, which includes restoring degraded environment, including the water bodies and the vegetation, and facilitating the young ones involved to get skills training and sustainable employment. Importantly, make sure that Ghana never experiences this menace again by enforcing rules and regulations without fear or favour,” he added.
Rev. Father Campbell also congratulated the President on programmes such as Planting for Food and Jobs, and the 1-District-1-Factory initiative, adding that “we are very interested in these programmes because of their employment generation potential, especially for our youth”.
The Parish Priest urged the President not to relent in his resolve to eliminate indiscipline, especially bribery and corruption from Ghanaian culture.
“We urge you not to look at persons, positions, relations and status in enforcing rules and regulations. This is the only way that the habit of discipline will be built. Additionally, Sir, as you punish wrong doing, try to reward right or honest behaviour, especially in public office. This, we believe, is a sure path to bringing about change.
“The change that Ghana needs, in our view, is about each and every Ghanaian behaving differently, and starting with those in leadership. We are solidly behind you.”

Is he a preacher or politician? you can as well appoint him as your minister of education. Does he know how many children have perished already as the result of this unplanned so called free SHS? A white man will never implement something like this in his country that will pose threat to even a single life of a child, but he asks you to do it as a duuuuumb black man
For those of you who say challenges are bound to fall on everything to be done should rather reason. Why don't you encourage those in Libya struggling to enter Europe to continue staying and trying even if they are killed? You can as well give unemployment benefit 2000 cedis to every Ghanaians since there are challenges in everything. You put people children I'm danger in you so called SHS packing them like sardines and claiming there is challenge in everything? ask that white man if in his country they give free boarding education to SHS students? it is sad these white people are helping to destroy our kids.
@JBO, you're very excellent. Your thoughts are very brilliant. I wish someone from the government read this and inform the presidency. Happy New Year JBO.
According to Niccolo Machiavelly,"Lying is okay if it accomplishes a political end" and that is exactly what the NDC is doing. They are nothing but skeptics who look for compelling evidence and also like pessimists who sees the difficulty in ever opportunity. Thank God Ghana is on track again.
I believe that challenges are bound to come in all programmes and decisions that we implement because we have a whole lot of systems to deal with. With particular reference to the free SHS is no exception. Our ability to solve those challenges as a government and people determines how far we want to succeed in its implementation and impacts. I think Government is fully aware of this and is taking the right steps to rectify those challenges. Am happy with the criticisms and the suggestions coming from the general public. Lets continue to support the government to do this right for GHANA NOT NPP. HAPPY NEW YEAR.
It is not out of place to have some challenges for such a large project or if you like a program. However, the warning bells were ringing very loud about some of these preventable challenges and they were ignored. They were ignored because they were perceived to be from the camp of their political enemy the NDC and so were quickly dismissed with alacrity as political sabotage. some civil society groups and voices added their concerns but these were also drowned by the ambition to fulfill their social contract they pre-signed with the people of Ghana during elections 2016. The policy in and of itself in laudable. As good as the policy is on paper ,it can make it appear a bad policy if wrongly implemented and I think that is what the NPP got wrong:implementation. If free means sacrificing quality then this is very bad news for the future development of the country. Already, our educational quality and standards are not the best in Africa and to further lower those low standards is playing with disaster unless we don't care about posterity.
We thank God for the take off of the programme. It is a great start. We will work to address the shortcomings IN the future we may as well consider some rich parents opting out and paying their wards fees.Government can pravitise the Achimotas and Mfantipem s St Augustine s etc government can designated certain schools as fee paying schools and those who decide to go there go there to pay fees . Government can then offer scholarship to about 10 percent of the intake to such school for the benefit of brilliant but poor students
Wow! very touchy from a foreigner to commend our president. We Ghanaian do not know what we have.
When a white man tells a black man to look up, he means looks down. These guys have deception and slavery mentality in their DNA. I were nana addo, I will be cautious about this commendation.
I really dont understand critics of the Free SHS project over its implementation challenges. No matter how you plan the execution of any project, once it involves human inputs there will definitely be challenges. No one can foresee all the challenges the project would present and deal with them(challenges) before implementation. The strength of the owner (NPP) is its ability to solve all the challenges as and when they come up.
