President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s comments regarding the ongoing probe in the $100,000 allegedly charged expatriate businessmen during a presidential dinner last year, is prejudicial, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has said.
According to him, the president should have refrained from commenting on the matter which is currently before a bi-partisan parliamentary committee.
At a media encounter on Wednesday, 17 January 2018, Nana Akufo-Addo dismissed claims that the Trade Ministry charged the expats for sitting close to him during the event.
He said Saied Fakhry, Chairman of Interplast Group Limited who was one of the person who sat close to him is a very close and personal friend who can reach him anytime of his choosing without having to pay a penny.
"I don't see why Saied Fakhry will pay money to sit by me", he told journalists.
"His father was a good friend of my own father and he himself has become a very close personal friend".
"I eat in his house. He eats in my house. He has my telephone number I have his. Even after I became president I have eaten in his house a couple of times".
"I would be amazed if somebody like that will think that he has to pay money to sit next to me...this is a man that can get me anytime of his choosing", he said.
But commenting on these statements in an interview with Accra FM Thursday, 18 January 2018, Mr Nketia said: “The accusation is against the presidency and so how can he come to a conclusion that there was no wrong doing?
“How can a seasoned lawyer like Nana Akufo-Addo make such a prejudicial comment on a matter before parliament when you know very well that that parliamentary committee is equivalent to a high court. If he has any evidence then he should present it to the committee."
He added: “The president has destroyed the work of the committee.”

NDC SHALL BE IN CHAOS FOR A LONG TIME UNLESS IT IS LED BY PEOPLE WHO ARE THINKERS BUT EMOTIONAL CHARLATANS. THE PRESIDENCY WAS THE FIRST TO DO ITS SCRUTINY AND THEY FOUND NO WRONGDOING. NOTHING HAS CHANGED SINCE THEN AND SO NANA IS RIGHT TO MAINTAIN THE CONCLUSION OF HIS FINDINGS TILL IT IS PROVE OTHERWISE. AGAIN ANY COMMON SENSE PERSON CAN DETERMINE EMPHATICALLY THAT NDC MPS HAVE NO CASE. THEIR ALLEGATION HAS NO FOUNDATION.IN VIEW OF ALL THIS I THINK IT IS NOT EVEN NECESSARY FOR THE INQUIRY COMMITTEE TO INVITE EXPATRIATE BUSINESS TO PARLIAMENT FOR ANY INTERROGATION. FEW AMONG THE EXPATRIATES THAT NEEDS TO ANSWER CERTAIN QUESTIONS MUST RESPOND IN WRITING TO CLARIFY ANY DOUBT HANGING IN THE CASE.
The trade Minister he said was cleared is that the President himself is not aware of the Ghana Financial Regulations as that is the law which is broken as the Trade Minister used that to receive the money and he has been caught pants down in the probe with the inciseful questions.
The president talked like a class one pupil. How can you say that because your electoral sponsor friend didn't not pay to sit by you, if others paid, it's ok. Very unclever statement from a so called president. Assuming without admitting that even only one person paid a 100000 dollars, is that not enough prima facie established that something untoward happened? The same man was campaigning with allegations of corruption of the officials of the former government. What a bogus president.
Forking shi thole president
I wonder why the ndc can't sack such loose talkers and bring new intelligent people to steer the affairs of ndc. This guy is old fashioned with the same old means of doing things. Ghanaians are above this kind of politics
Why did they have to ask a question about this case to the president knowing very well the case was being heard at the parliamentary committee level? Was it a trap or what? Now the president has spoken and look at what the opposition has started to do!!!!
Where from this Amidu's Special Prosecutors Student too. You days are numbered. Amidu will crack the whip any time sooner.
When it was becoming obvious that this whole cash for seat saga was much ado about nothing, I knew the NDC will look for any opportunity to use as an escape route. Now they are claiming Nana Addo has spoilt the case, so their propaganda and mischief can continue.
