The Ranking Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has described as 'insulting' President Akufo-Addo's remark on the controversial Ghana-US Defence Cooperation.
The President on Thursday evening spoke to the deal for the first time in an address which was aired on various media outlets.
He expressed outrage at his opponents, describing their comments over the Ghana-US military co-operation agreement as irresponsible and defamatory.
He said “this is the kind of cynical manipulation by reckless self-seekers, which, in the fullness of time, the people of Ghana will acknowledge and condemn. And I am sure that as the facts become clear and widely available, and as the people come to terms with the evidence, they will reject the falsehood and deliberate attempts to destabilize our peaceful country. Truth is sacrosanct.”
The President said the agreement was presented to parliament for ratification and duly disclosed to the public for purposes of transparency and accountability. (Click to read)
Shortly after the address, Mr. Ablakwa, took to Twitter saying: "A terribly sad night indeed. This is not how a President talks down to his own people. The intolerant, condescending and insulting response to genuine concerns of Ghanaians from all sections of society is very regrettable".
