A member of the communication team of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Gary Marfo Nimako has said it was not true the Police CID has apologised to some former government appointees for erroneously inviting them for questioning as to why they received double pay.
Rather, he said the investigations were still ongoing and that the police only called the said former appointees to reschedule their various appointments and not to inform them of no longer pursuing the matter as had been alleged by some of them.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Newsfile programme on Saturday, Mr Marfo Nimako said investigators at the CID simply called the named former officials to reschedule their appearance before the CID.
Some government appointees have been frothing with rage over allegations that they received double pay as MPs and also as Ministers.
They have accused the government of intimidation and vowed to resist attempts to use the security agencies to witch-hunt them.
Double ex-gratia
Mr Marfo Nimako said he was aware some of the affected officials even took ex gratia payments as Members of Parliament and as Ministers.
He said some more investigations were underway to reconcile the figures of former ministers who took double ex gratia payments as MPs and as Ministers.
He said the double payments may have arisen from lack of synchronisation of the payment systems for MPs and ministers.
He added that the claims by some of those cited that they did not know they received double payments cannot be true.
”While the paying institutions can be blamed for failing to communicate, the beneficiaries had a responsibility to, when they noticed the double payment, inform say, the Parliamentary Service that they were already being paid as ministers”.
“How could they not know that you are receiving these payments when in fact and indeed your bank account shows credits of these payments”, he quizzed.

No one is saying if they knew they were receiving double salaries and they took it, they were right, NO! What some of us are saying is that the payment authority should have known this if they were competent. It is a common knowledge most ministers are appointed from parliament and the payment authority should have known this. How do you blame your incompetence on the receiver. What if the receivers assumed that they were entitled to such payments because it's no fault of theirs. This is not a case where they were paid double for their positions as ministers and they refused to return the extra. They were paid for being a ministers and they were separately paid for being MPS. This in my opinion does not constitute double payments. All the need to do if the allegations are true is to pay back the extra they received for the other portfolio they held. In any case who doesn't want freebies. The payment authority need to be punished for not doing due diligence.
@Ama:If you the buyer is given more than your change and you realise it but you keep it, that makes you a ***barred word***.
Why do we make politics out of wrong doing. Ghana belongs to all of us.This platform is not meant for insults let deal with the real issues the hypocrisy and this dishonesty should stop. What they did if its true then its wrong.
Who is dis arrogant Guy who talk as if he is better dan any body else if investigations is going on and u haf not concluded it do u invite people for questions pls npp is a party of frustrated individuals simply because they haf said a lot and they are now realising that it will not happened like they wish for and so they are now targeting people to use dem to cover they shameful behaviour in office
@Ama. They were paid under JDM. If you are MP and also appointed a Minister, you have to take your pay as a Minister only. The Ministers pay I'd higher that the MP. In this case, they were Ministers under JDM and should have received only the Minister 's salary. But in this case, they also were paid as MPs. Double pay! The Accountant General pays Ministers salaries while Parliamentary Service pays MPs. So they received from both sides. They should have notified Parliament when they saw the anomaly but didn't and they took all the money. That is the problem. Dishonestly receiving monies not due you!
HOW IS IT THAT SOME PEOPLE DO NOT HAVE CRITICAL THINKING. HOW CAN AN NDC MEMBER BE A MINISTER UNDER NANA AKUFO ADDO AND DR BAWUMIA FOR THEM TO BE PAID DOUBLE SALARY AND EX-GRATIA. THE NDC MINISTERS WERE MINISTERS UNDER JOHN MAHAMA AND THE NDC GOVERNMENT AND THAT IS WHEN THE DOUBLE PAYMENTS HAPPENED AND THE DOUBLE EX GRATIA WAS PAID, ELSE HOW CAN NDC MINISTERS SERVE UNDER NANA AND BAWUMIA.
If this is true, it show the level of nana barwumia incompetence. Under whose watch was such ex gratia paid. Did they pay themselves before they left office or it was under nana's supervision that they were paid. Are those who received the monies controller and accountant generals. We need to be serious in this country. How do you blame a buyer who is overchanged by a seller he buys item from?
