After a successful fight for political freedom, Ghana is once again leading the rest of Africa in a fight for emancipation, this time for economic freedom, the Vice President of the Republic has declared.
According to H.E. Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, this vision of an economically-emancipated Africa is what underpins President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s vision of a Ghana Beyond Aid, which should eventually lead to an Africa Beyond Aid.
Dr Bawumia outlined the President’s vision when he received H.E. Pedro Verona Rodrigues Pires, former President of the Republic of Cape Verde, at the Jubilee House, Accra on Friday 20th April, 2018.
H.E. Pedro Pires is in Ghana to deliver the 6th Edition of the Africa Leadership Lectures of the University of Development Studies, Tamale.
“Decades after Ghana and the rest of Africa fought for political freedom, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is engaged in a fight for economic freedom, which is captured in his vision of a Ghana beyond Aid. We hope this eventually leads to an economically-emancipated Africa, an Africa Beyond Aid,” H.E Dr Bawumia stated.
The Vice President commended the former Cape Verde President, who was awarded the Mo Ibrahim Prize for Leadership after his terms ended in 2011, saying “President Pires is a role model for those privileged to serve.”
Recalling his days in Ghana, when he arrived in 1962 as a Freedom Fighter, H.E. Pedro Pires had high praise for President Akufo-Addo’s stance on matters affecting the African continent, as well as Ghana’s economic and political stability now.
“Ghana is a shining example for the rest of Africa, and I sincerely hope it is sustained and enhanced.”

Dr. Bawumia's tactics won power for NPP. We are well aware of the diabolic plans of NPP to set aside Bawumia. But it wont wash.
The problem with African politicians is that they talk too much with little action. The VP must tell the country which has depended on Aid since colonial times till to day how he is going to wean Ghana from aid. The structure of the economy has be aid-driven since colonial and slavery time and time and time again every president or political party preach the same things we hear today but little action. This shows a lack of strategic vision by Ghanaian politicians. Most countries in Asia cannot even boast of bauxite as a natural resource yet they are far more developed than most African nations. All the countries in the world colonized by Great Britain , it is only African countries with the exception of South Africa that has lagged behind. Ghanaian politicians cannot even solve inflation. Their policies rather result in run away inflation on the super highway even if we have one. Until we move away from resource exports and change our economies from exports of natural resources which only attracts a paltry royalty from the multinationals , we are not going anywhere. After all the prices of our natural resources are set by multinationals in the London, New York and Hong Kong stock exchange. The cocoa farmer in Ghana is given a paltry amount in cedis by our politicians and keep them in poverty because of our dump policies while the industrialized world which adds value to our natural resources creates value through manufacturing and their supply chain and jobs for their people. African countries has been thrown into a shithole by its own politicians . Until we vote the right people with the right mindset and the right vision into positions of power, Ghana is not going anywhere. We are stuck due to bad policies and too much talk and boofenery and London accent without any actions taken to solve problems.
Bawumia has done it again . Clap for him. He is just an error in Economics.I wonder the school and faculty that gave him the Doctorate degree. I think his certificate should be reviewed . H e does not deserve it.
