Mr Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, nephew to President Nana Akufo-Addo, has said he is not stupid enough to undermine Asante monarch Otumfuo Osei Tutu II as being alleged by the revered traditional leader.
At the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi recently, the furious Asante monarch is said to have specifically named Mr Otchere-Darko and the president’s Executive Secretary Nana Asante Bediatuo, as plotting to undermine him.
A group called Concerned Youth of Ashanti led by Dr. Nana Agyenim Boateng, has come out to confirm the allegations.
“A couple of years ago under the leadership of Akufo-Addo, his nephew and relatives started making some comments concerning the Asantehene and the Asantehene himself mentioned Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko and Asante Bediatuo at the Manhyia Palace. Everything they are saying about the Asantehene, he is in Manhyia Palace but he has heard of it”, Dr Agyenim Boateng told Accra-based Starr FM in an interview on Thursday, 3 May.
Ashanti Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi) and other leading figures of the NPP, including Acting General Secretary John Boadu; Ashanti Regional Minister Simon Osei-Mensah, as well as the Regional Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation, Kwabena Senkyire, went to the Manyhia Palace on Wednesday, 2 May 2018 for a different purpose but got confronted by the enraged monarch who revealed to them that certain people close to the seat of government were making disparaging comments about him and also pitching him against the people of Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area – native town of President Nana Akufo-Addo, Mr Otchere-Darko and Nana Asante Bediatuo.
This prompted an instant groveling apology by the four leading figures of the NPP, who fell on their knees before the traditional leader.
Responding to the allegation against him, Mr Otchere-Darko wrote on his Facebook page: “Am I so stupid that I would work against my own interest and turn one-half of me against the other half by inciting my mother’s people against my father’s people; that I would bite the very hand that feeds us politically? Perplexing”.

The Question one has to ask is ; WHY IS THE ASHANTIHENE so upset by this mere gossip and titile tattles from the public ; is the man playing some cheap politics afterall everybody knows he is an NDC supporter and had close relatioship with Jon Mahama and the NDC party besides the evidence is there ; today people say all sort things about the the Queen of England besides in a democracy people can say or express their opinions about issues ; if you do not like it you go straight to court to sue besides you cannot erase knowlegde from peoples brains ; the Ashantihene cannot force people to forget about the bad deeds of this rein.
Of course, it's evidently clear, you are so unclever.
The Asantene will not come out and say things that bothers him and the Ashanti Kingdom. He only does so after careful discussions with the other chiefs. The king coming out with these serious allegations means something is wrong. Anyone faulting Asantehene for coming out with his grievances should take time and school himself or herself about the Ashanti Traditional system.
@KANAZOE JOHN MAHAMA who is crying? ***barred word***. Go and say this to ur ***barred word*** family. Aminal like u
infect nana should call gabi to book. his response shows highest of arrogance.
What is the motivation for the Ashantehene to come public on this matter? I know he has the ears of the President 24/7. He could have called him to complain. After all Gabby is half Ashanti and half Akyem.
This is what happens when you dance "y3ntie Obiaa" with Kofi Dubai. Now you dey cry?
This thing did not start today...The king have every right to be furious. Chameleons always changing color.
we are sitting our somewhere.
Anytime the NPP fails to do what is right, they will always blame their failure on NDC.
