Founder of World Miracle Outreach, Rev. Dr. Lawrence Tetteh has joined the fray regarding the extension of the four-year presidential term currently being practised per the constitution in the country.
Echoing the words of Dr. Samiu Kwadwo Nuamah, MP for Kwadaso Constituency, Rev. Dr. Lawrence Tetteh argued that the four-year term was not enough for government to implement its projected policies.
“My biggest challenge is that the four-year span for the leadership is not enough. This is Ghana. This is Africa. This is not Europe where we have all the systems and everything in place that there is continuity”, the revered man of God explained in an interview with GhanaWeb.
Comparing the governance system in Europe to that of Ghana, Rev. Dr. Lawrence Tetteh posited that unlike Ghana, there is hardly any change in staff at the presidency or in Parliament in Europe or America or Asia. He held the assertion that a minimum of 6 years would rather suffice in helping a new government fulfil its campaign projects.
“When government changes hand in Europe, in America or in Asia, the staff in the ministries do not change hands. The staff at the presidency do not change hands, the staff at the prime minister’s office do not change hands. Staff at the Parliament do not change hands. But in this part of the world we live in, everything changes. So let us give our leadership six years at least to be able to formulate, settle down and put things together”, Rev. Dr. Lawrence Tetteh added.
The outspoken cleric claimed that a new government ‘wastes’ the first two years of assuming office to settle down and put things in place, with the third year set aside for campaigning. Thus, there is not enough time to implement policies.

Imagine you have ***barred word*** FOR 7 YEARS. lets keep to the 4 years please
this pastor is a fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuul
For me ; there is a good reason why the figure 4 years was choosen in most democracies besides the concept of democracy and capitalism work to together ; democracy as a concept which oils capitalism ; that means the majority are made to work hard for the few to take decisions ; still and enjoy but then the few are fulled that they are involved in the pocess of decision making and growth and are fulled with this idea of one man one vote for each person but are not allowed to take decisions when it comes to critical decisons when it comes to sharing of growth dividends ; big contracts are left in the hands of an elite called the political elite who lie and claim they can do anything including walking on water ; they are then given a time factor of 4 years to test their capabilities but 4 years soon arrives and they realise they have not done any thing but rather have spent time lying and stilling from the people ; the issue of maintaining this unique 4 years is simple ; if you perform well within this period and do not spend your time stilling and lutting from the state ; then democracy will require you to come back again and continue with your growth policies in which the people can benefit but then if you have criminal minds like the NDC/NPP party led by Jon Mahama a stiller from the labelled slogan ; create ;lut and share party with incompetence thrown in how do you expect deomocracy to allow such bunch of kriminal politicians to continue beyond 4 years !!!!; Mr Osofo Tetteh please keep to your Bible that is what you are good at and stop this pedesterian propaganda ; 4 years is enough to test your ability to deliver -IDIOTIC AIMLESS FULLISH PASTOR !!!!!
I will prefer a 10-Year One Term Government! In most cases in Ghana, the Presidents become corrupt by the pressure from the Party members. If a President knows he only has 10Years to deliver on his promises without any care for reelection, it would be difficult to influence him and give him unnecessary pressure. Rwanda is not developed cos, they are different. They have had a consistent competent/wise president! Every Nation MUST redefine its Democracy! A change in govt doesnt necessarily guarantee Growth in Devpmt!
This is subject that the Pastors getting involved have diverted their attention from the gospel of Jesus's teaching to prepare us for the second coming. The political landscape is better the unreasonable coups we have and if we toy with this and end going to the coups we would have regrets. We must go 50 years before we can think of revising. The constitution review that was done has not been implemented.
I agree with you all. Parties campaigning for power should have a solid plan and team ready to start work as soon as it wins power and NOT WASTE MONTHS trying to put a team together. As long as our Constitution does not explicitly allow the PRE-MATURE REMOVAL of a President and his/her cabinet from power, the 4 years are more than enough. By the way, our current constitution is "flawed" - it was signed by a soldier who committed TREASON by removing a DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED president/government from power. Until today PNDC laws are still in operation - does that mean our First Republican Constitution condones treason? Another topic for serious discussion.
I think the call for an extension on the Presidential term is a little misplaced. The examples provided are even more of a reason why I think they've misunderstood the whole idea. These governments have a very strong Civil Service. We've weakened ours and that is the challenge we have right now. The UK went through a period where there was no government after their elections in 2010. While they were busy building a Coalition Government, the Civil Service was in charge of the country helping to create the Government while also making sure that Government continues to run. So the "Staff" that doesn't change is what we need to look at. That "Staff" must not be allowed to change. It's that simple! Wanting to extend the Presidential term would continue to be an argument even if the term goes to 10 years per term. Let's fix the root cause and not the symptons.
osofo pls, lets take our ghana like that wai, by grace by favor you made ya wealth most in UK right, i used to watched ya miracle teaching and dont see it any more but hope you not coming into the arena of dirt or you are? pls lets take the 4 years like that wai bcx even as lil as you are thinking, its too long if a wicked man is in power so if we extend to say 6 or 5 per term, generations will be aborted right from creation. we are ok with the 4 wai and the good constistitution gave extension of another 4 if the people so wish. a good man on bed does not need 3 hours to impregnant the wife, if they show signs of committment, the constitution has given then chance for extension so pls osofo, cut that debate short in order not to let the issue of nyantakyi die premature wai, i beg paa
Wait until you are saddled with a corrupt and incompetent president like John Mahama then you'll understand why even the 4 yrs is too much. Lets manage our thing like that wai!
We could not have survived under the corrupt John Ford Mahama government for more than 4 years.... Let us keep the 4 year term for now..... Democracy is not cheap....
