Founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and leader of the June 4 uprising, Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings, will deliver the keynote address at a durbar of cadres and activists to climax activities marking the 39th anniversary of the uprising on Monday.
According to a statement issued by the anniversary planning committee, the durbar will take place at the Madina Social Welfare School Park on Monday from 10am.
This year’s celebration is under the theme, “Re-organising towards the core values”.
Other speakers at the event will include NDC party chairman, Kofi Portuphy, Dan Abodakpi, Fritz Baffour, Samuel Nuamah Donkor, Ebi Bright and Lawrence Lamptey.
Activities marking the 39th anniversary include a lecture which was held at the National theatre on Thursday May 31.
Monday’s durbar is open to all sympathisers of the June 4 uprising, the 31st December Revolution and members of the public.
Flt Lt Rawlings led a group of junior officers and men of the Ghana Armed Forces in an uprising against the then Supreme Military Council (SMC II) regime led by General F.K. Akuffo. The move was motivated by a desire to stem the scourge of corruption that had engulfed the country at all levels leading to a virtual breakdown of the economy.
Three months later the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC) led by Rawlings handed over power to an elected government.

The June 4th revolution and it celebrations has out lived its usefulness. What the P NDC has done to us nakes e revolution look like they just came to kill a few rich people who made their money genuinely to enrich themselves. Rawlings and his henchmen made money through the citizens vetting committee(CVC) if anyone remembers and now his party is stealing from the state.
Usel1ess revolution which made a few people very rich and impoverished the majority of us...... This so called revolution achieved nothing for our country....
Why should Rawlings celebrate June 4?
JUNE, 4, is all about empty rhetoric and changing of the economic status of a young army officer who could not buy even a black and white television set nor a set of furniture for his room. Not to talk about buying "Yoko gari" on credit. And he blamed ever other person for his poor status in life. No wonder he took $5 million from Abacha to be his PR man.
THANK GOD THAT JM HAS ABSENTED THIS LECTURE. I WISH ALL OTHER EXECUTIVES INCLUDING THE CHAIRMAN WILL ALSO BOYCOTT ANY ACTIVITY ORGANISED BY RAWLINGS. HE IS TAKING EVERYONE FOR GRANTED.
Its time Rawlings to stop making noises and respect himself as a good state man and as a good first former president. Rawlings talking this day to come back and apologized has make you unpopular. People no more respect you just because of you talking with insults. You should have been addressing issues which will bring peace and love but attacking personalities like your own former presidents. I sincere hope that this 39 years of your June 4th will make you to respect yourself for people too to respect you.
Did Akufo Addo declare this June 4th a Holiday? Just asking.
For goodness sake, please take out the names of KOFI Portuphy and Dan Abodakpi from the speakers. They don't have the moral record to talk about the core values of the NDC
