General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has downplayed the recent endorsement of former President John Mahama by some members of the Minority in Parliament.
Some Minority members of parliament had appended their signatures as a form of endorsement of the former president.
The MPs say they believe the former President would be the best candidate for the NDC in the 2020 general elections.
But addressing a news conference in Accra Thursday, Asiedu Nketia said the endorsement was not a general Minority position.
Rather, he said, it was some individual MPs who have endorsed the candidature of Mr Mahama who is yet to declare his intention to contest.
While everyone reserves the right to support any candidate, General Mosquito, as he is popularly called, said the endorsement is premature.
He explained that the party is going through re-structuring hence till it opens nomination, campaigning for any particular candidate will be unfair.
General Mosquito called on all party members to exercise restraint and do a clean campaign for a united NDC.
