The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially declared the flagbearership contest of the party duly opened.
According to Johnson Asiedu Nketia those interested to contest for the flagbearership must officially notify the office of the General Secretary of their intention before embarking on any campaign activity across the country.
Addressing a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Accra today (Thursday), General Secretary of the party, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia popularly known as General Mosquito explained that members of the party are not to also commit the party structure at all levels to support one particular candidate.
"Leadership of the party at all levels should not commit the party's structure to one candidate," he said.
The party also indicated that the date for the regional elections which was originally slated for August 25th has been postponed to September 1, 2018.
This according to the General Secretary is to enable the party put together some internal measures and also be able to accumulate other party activities within the party's time table.
The party indicated that the date for its congress still remains unchanged and will duly come off on September 21, 2018.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia also added that the party will on the 7th of December organize its National Congress to elect a flagbearer to lead the party into the 2020 general elections.
"Venues for both our National congress and flagbearer elections will be communicated in due course," he indicated.
"You all know how hard the economy has become under this government, so we expect you to be modest in your campaign. No extravagant and flashy spending, if you have enough money to spend, kindly direct those funds into party funds for campaign and other party activities.
"We are also warning that you will also avoid abusive words in your various campaigns, you must be decorous enough to avert possible acrimony within the rank and file of the party," he advised potential aspirants.

The NDC opened nominations for the regional positions on Monday, July 16th to 18th July, 2018.
