Former Trade Minister and NDC flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah says delegates of the National Democratic Congress do not want a leader who has the tendency of being called corrupt or incompetent.
According to the flagbearer hopeful, the needs of the delegates has changed; hence their call for a leader who will not be an easy target for their opponents come 2020.
Dr. Spio-Garbrah who was speaking on 3FM Sunrise morning show on Tuesday, August 28, said there is a changed mindset amongst the delegates, in terms of those they elect to be at the helm of affairs for the NDC.
“There is a strong wind of change blowing through the party; right from the grassroot. This wind of change within the NDC is saying that, yes some people have served us well, some four years, some eight years, some even more than that.”
“…but it is time to get fresh, re-energized blood into the system for a new and improved NDC; people who can be sent to the battlefield, and in the case of the flagbearer, a person who cannot be accused by the NPP of being corrupt or incompetent, which were the two main charges that the NPP leveled against us,” Dr. Spio-Garbrah noted.
According to him, the delegates are do not want a repetition of what happened within their last administration which saw allegations of corruption, incompetent amongst others leveled at the party and its leadership.
“It is a problem and a factor, whether allegations were true or not is another matter. Whether I believe we were corrupt or not is another matter…no corruption charges as I know have yet been proven against most NDC leaders at the time.”
The former Trade Minister noted that his main focus as a flagbearer hopeful is on the delegates and what they want; hence, he is placing emphasis on their needs, and dedicating his time and attention to them.
According to Dr. Spio-Garbrah, the NDC ought to restructure and put certain measures in place to ensure that the party attains victory come 2020. he said he was hopeful of getting the nod from the delegates and would work on the restructuring of the party to involve the grassroots and teh foot soldiers in the mainstream of the party activities.

On Ghanaweb there's a story under the heading; Mahama is a repented Soul - Allotey pleads. When i read it felt it was quite the joke you know. It's not Jacobs Allotey Bernard saying Mahama is a repented soul that is funny oooo, but the fact that, they somehow have this feeling, or is it belief they will come back to power in 2020. I find it intriguing because there's reality and fiction, and it seems the NDC has hitched their wagon to this fictional narrative of coming back to power in 2020, and I don't get it. They have a problem and it is denial. They are living in denial and it's sad. NDC should be looking at winning elections in Ghana after about 7 election cycles i.e in about 3 decades. Ghana is serious about developing this country in a consistent platform of progress not the 4 steps forward, 10 steps back and IMF sorts of things, NO.
