The GHS420,000 filing fee for flag bearer aspirants of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is giving weight to the ‘create, loot and share’ allegation against the party, Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has said.
The seven-time MP who is one of the aspirants told Class FM on Thursday, 29 November that the amount being charged will also spawn corruption.
All male flag bearer aspirants of the NDC are expected to cough up GHS400,000 as filing fee while their female counterparts and persons with disability pay GHS200,000 and GHS150,000 respectively. Their nomination form is going for GHS20, 000.
In the Nadowli Kaleo MP’s view, the aspirants can raise that amount, but their financiers could use it as a bait to dissipate public funds in the future.
“Any of us could try to mobilise that money because definitely, you can get in touch with people who have money to pay off, but I can tell you that is a wrong thing to do. That is the beginning of corruption that is just giving evidence to what people have been saying – ‘create, loot and share’. I am not going to be part of that, I can assure you”.
Mr Bagbin said the decision taken by the party does not resonate with its own principles of social democracy.
“I am not going to be part of this kind of opulence and show of extravagance, I will not be part of it, no!” he said.

The Hon MP is right. NDC is gradually loosing their grounds with some of these petty mistakes. The Hon MP's statement tells that, he is likely to be on his own for the contest of the presidency. If that happens, it will confirm my second sentence above.
I think am beginning to like Mr. Bagbin for transparency. This is sheer opulence at the highest point meant to promote only one person. But NDC should know that that one person will not live forever. A word to a wise.....
For all their scheming, JDM will get 40.3 per cent at presidential election.
NDC double salary t.h.ieves.....
Every level headed candidate would not even make an attempt to contest this election, because its clear, they are going to waste their money. The writings are on the wall that about 99% of ndc membership wants mahama to be their flagbearer. Even if the amount is pegged at 10ghana you are going to waste money so stop whining.
I now fully understand why some candidates are already campaigning, he knows how to eliminate his opponent. This is called Elimination by rough tactics.
bam! Its a elimination by rough tactics. ndc is good in that bugabuga life style, so its not surprising. but what were the other aspirants thinking? their executives and members of parliament have already declared support for mahama, so to me they are just wasting their time and resources. instead of them wasting their resources now, i will rather advise them to step down and use their resources to frustrate mahama's 2020 bid. i think that will be more beneficial to them then wasting it now.
This ***barred word*** of a general sec. would not stop his lies. NPP never took GHs500,000. it was GHs75,000 for the filing fees and GHs15,000 for picking up the form. thet is the highest NPP filing fees. For NDC the previous amount was GHs100,000 to deter people like George Boateng who dared to contest mahama. Even is ndc wanted to increase the fees by 100% it would have been GHs200,000. In raising funds for a party the onus is not only on the flag bearer alone. In fact the executive of the party must strategize and rely on their whole party machinery and electorate to raise funds. How much did Asiedu Nketiah, Akamba, Gyamfi and co pay for filing fees. Let us be circumspect. THis is just a rip off to benefit one candidate. If not it is certainly a case of inflated fees. from inflated contracts to inflated fees.
That is what Mr. Ofosu Ampofo said 'the number of aspirants will reduce'. They knew what they were going to do. Elimination by rough tactics!
WHAT YOU ARE SAYING IS THE TRUTH BUT IF YOU SAY YOU CANT BE PART THEN YOU ARE GETTING OUT OF THE CONTEST. WISHING BEST OF EVERYTHING.
