Snippets of information reaching Peacefmonline.com indicate that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has reportedly reduced the filing fee for Presidential Primaries of the party which comes off in January 2019.
This decision reportedly comes after some Presidential aspirants within the party expressed concerns over the filing and nomination fees.
The disgruntled aspirants in a joint petition to the opposition party’s National Council of Elders demanded among others, a reduction in the filing and nomination fees.
They also wanted the election date postponed to March.
Alban Bagbin, Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, Sylvester Mensah, Stephen Atubiga, Nurudeen Iddrisu, Goosie Tanoh, Kojo Bonsu and Elikplim Agbemava want the nomination fees, or fees for collection of forms, pegged at GH¢ 5,000 and filing fees reduced to GH¢100,000.
Deadline for filing of nomination was initially slated on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 where only five aspirants picked forms to contest the Presidential Primaries.
Upon intervention by the Council of Elders of the party, the National Executive Council (NEC) has finally reviewed the amount, cutting down from GHC 400,000 to GHC 300,000.
The party leadership has also extended the deadline for filing of nomination to Saturday, December 8, 2018.
However, the GHC 20,000 fee for picking nomination forms remain same while the party has moved the primaries which was initially scheduled on January, 19 next year to January 26, 2019.
Goosie Tanoh calls for restart of primaries process
One of the dispruntled aspirants, Goosie Tanoh, has said there are viable reasons to reopen the just ended process for picking of nomination forms.
The process closed amid concerns by eight of the 12 aspirants that the nomination and filing fees set by the National Executive Committee (NEC) breached the party’s constitution.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Mr Goosie Tanoh said there are at least two political grounds for reviewing and restarting the primaries process, an important part of which was ended on Tuesday.

The Title/Subject - NDC Reduces 'Killer' GHc 40k Filing Fee is deceptive. It wasn't GHc 40k it was GHc 400k. This is crazy and thank God Jerry and the others spoke against it to be reduced. Irrespective of the fact that Mahama will win the Primaries, NDC should wake up and get together. The division etc among them will unfortunately keep them in opposition until they come together. NPP is a strong force though both NDC and NPP preach virtue and practice vise Ghanaians must wake up and stand up for their/our rights. How long will we look on and see them campaign with no facts and follow similar trends as their predecessors. Rich country with lots of natural resources but poor like hell. Europe has nothing but with good management and less greed they are thriving Wake up Africa. Now China is using money to take over Africa - how silly can we be?
Who cares? ndc is a disgrace to Ghana politics and that's why it will remain in opposition for a very loooong time until it breaks off and form again it can NEVER WIN POWER IN GHAHA. Now decent Ghananians are saying like the Jews said NEVER AGAIN to ndc. NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU, NDC YAAMUTU
Pls it's 400K not 40K Must I always correct you guys.
whats the difference? they shd just stick to their 400,000. reducing it to 300,000 makes them look more stup1?d
@Kwaku, the money is not going to anybody,s pocket. It is to organise the election for them. What is all this noise for huh? If they like, they should not to contribute anything.
I just hope the amount being quoted as the reduced amount is not true but another speculation. If the elders think they have done something worth praising then they have rather ridiculed themselves further. Do they think there is much difference with 400,000 and 300,000 ? They should have rather taken 100,000 or 150,000 and they will have saved face. But if it is 300k then please, we will stay in opposition for long
