The Minority Leader in Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu is calling for an increase in the number of parliamentarians from 275 to 300.
According to him, he wants the additional twenty five seats to be reserved solely for women.
He said this during a contribution to a statement on the floor of parliament on women empowerment.
“Mr Speaker maybe today we have 275 seats in Ghana’s parliament, but we could decide to add additional twenty five more seats by dedicating it solely to women,” he said.
This he said, will reflect the size and strength of the political parties in parliament and help encourage women empowerment in the country.
Early on in the month, a former Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Mrs Nana Oye Lithur, called for appropriate legal and policy frameworks to ensure that all bottlenecks to the empowerment of women in Ghana are removed.
And according to the Minority Leader, if more seats are reserved for women in parliament, it will help strengthen the women empowerment agenda of the country.

Populace non***barred word***. The constituencies where women won, were those seats reserved for women? Didn't they all stood on their merit and were considered for the positions and voted for? If you feel so strongly about it, suggest to your party to reserve a percentage of parliamentary seats for women and publish the names of the constituencies and let's all see what happens.
EVEN 275 ARE INCOMPETENT.YOU CALL YOURSELF MINORITY LEADER,FFOOOOOOLLL
HE KEEPS ON DISAPPOINTING EVERYBODY INCLUDING HIS WIFE BY THE DAY...VERY DISGUSTING PERSONALITY NOW-A-DAYS. MESSING UP HIS POLITICAL FUTURE FAST. WHAT HAS ACCOUNTED FOR THE RIDICULE SURROUNDING THE NAME MAHAMAH? METHINKS THE GENESIS OF PLUNGING THE NAME MAHAMAH INTO DISREPUTE FINDS EXPRESSION IN THE FOLD OF NDC. A TIME WILL COME ANYBODY RESPONDING TO MAHAMAH WILL BE PERCIEVED INEPT AND INCOMPETENT. THOSE MAHAMA'S HAVE AND CONTINUE TO DISAPPOINT WITH SILLY LOQUACIOUSNESS.
You are sick ,275 is even too much we need only 150 ,don't open avenue for ***barred word*** student politician s who have not done anything in life .Once they get there they look fir ministerial appointment to get the chance to inflate government contract and pocket the money. Let them go and find a more profitable way to help the economy , currently don't see their use.
Ghana's Parliament is the most use'less institution in the country. A bunch of thu-gs and power hungry individuals who are enriching themselves at the expense of the poor tax payer. They should actually reduce their number to 100. I have no respect for them!
Ghana can't afford to breed more f000*00ls in our parliament. If I have my way this 275 will be reduced to 100 because there are some constituencies which shouldn't be created at all, like Asawase,Murtala's constituency, Akando constituency, Sampson Ahi's constituency and most if the constituencies won by the ndc because the people do not understand why they vote, the impact that has on them and the nation and that will save as charlatans being voted into our parliament for serious business. There is no need for fresh constituencies, Ghana must move forward but can't with some mps whose jobs are to oppose every good thing because they don't understand business of governance and they don't listen to themselves when offering themselves for that job. This crop of John mahama ndc are tiwiifuo unlike those ndc opposition members during Papa Kuffuor's time, who gave constructive criticism and praise where it deserved. They praised then Kuffuor's administration especially Jon. Alban Bagbin, ET Mensah and others to the extent one of them lost a position he was nominated for just because he approved some money to be giving to president Kuffuor which the haters advised Prof. Mills not to allow that and the man lost his nomination to become a minister. he was a Northerner I've forgotten his name that's the extent of the hate ndc have, they will rot in opposition!
Haruna sacrifice his Tamale seat for a woman if indeed he believes in women empowerment!
This is a sorry guy. Parliamentary seats must be cut down to below 200. What is the use of 275 people, some of whom cant even read and write. The most ***barred word*** part of our government is the big number of parliamentarians. Ghana needs only about 100 parliamentarians. This guy who cheated in his final exams is the minority leader. GHANA DOES NOT NEED 300 '***barred word***' PARLIAMENTARIANS. When the number reaches 400 they will be asking for a new building. Which great country does that, Haruna!
