Member of Parliament for the people of Asawase in the Ashanti Region, Alhaji Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka has described the Free Senior High School policy as a very useful one but lacking good implementation direction.
The Minority Chief Whip has bemoaned the poor implementation of a policy he described as “very useful”, commending the Akufo-Addo administration for its bold start of the policy, but added the challenges associated with the implementation are making the policy to appear as a bad one.
Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, Hon. Muntaka admitted to the fact that the beginning of every project comes with some challenges and prayed the Akufo-Addo government fix the challenge with the Free SHS policy.
“The Free SHS is a very useful policy as a nation and I commend the government for its boldness to start the policy, but look at the challenge that comes with it. I agree that the beginning of everything comes with a challenge and we are all praying that the government will be able to fix it, but the SHS has become traffic light; some are on green and others are on yellow and very soon, some of the students will be put on red and the red is when they fail their exams,” he bemoaned.
He mentioned that it is a reality facing the country that government has collapsed the basic schools as people living in all the big cities are taking their children to private schools.
He feared that the poor implementation of the Free SHS policy may collapse the secondary schools again; thus, those who can afford may end up taking their children to private secondary schools as it is happening in the basic schools.
“Is this the kind of country we want to run? Did they [Akufo-Addo government and NPP] think thoroughly about it before they implemented the Free SHS policy? Because the implementation is having too many challenges and the ripping effect will not happen today but in about 5 years later when they have completed tertiary education and yet they cannot even write ‘Myself Essay’,” he lamented.
Mubarak Muntaka stressed that “regardless the challenge, I will bear witness that the policy is very good but the implementation is diluting quality education”.

Why is it that northerners who are politicians are the ones fighting free SHS? People from the north of Ghana have enjoyed free secondary school from Kwame Nkrumah's time till now. Nana Akuffo Addo has only extended it to the south so why are the northeners complaining? Why, are people from the South of Ghana not also Ghanaians? Why is the NDC bent on destroying this good policy? OK, you continue to attack the free SHS. In 2020 elections if John Mahama gets even 37%, you have to thank God. Ghanaians will punish NDC well well.
Muntaka and NDC, you keep contradicting yourselves with regard to the Free SHS Policy. In one vein, you condemned the government for collapsing private SHS in this country. Now that you claim the private SHS are being inundated with students because of Free SHS, you turn round to say the government is collapsing public SHS in Ghana. I am at a loss. The policy is good, but the implementation. What do you suggest to improve implementation? Meanwhile, can you define 'quality education' as implementation tool for the Free SHS?
Why is the NDC against the free SHS. They did the same to the NHIS and when they had the opportunity the collapse it leaving a debt of 1.2m cedis. Even the NHIS that people pay to renew they could not sustain than the free SHS, they will collapse it in a single year. That is the main reason why they have started their propaganda that because of free SHS Ghana's education is diluting. Ghanaians should never make a mistake.
If I were a member of the NDC I would advice that they stay away from the free SHS koraaa!!! Nana Addo has made a case for the rest of Southern Ghana who did not benefit from free education. Any shortfalls with the implementation is being addressed. It is a no go area for the NDC and they better watch out. It will succeed no matter what because a literate nation is one that prospers.
Ah kyinkyinga de waakye MP just ***barred word*** as SHS has become a success and every Ghnanaian child will by all means benefit. At least the children can write and speak English and even know how to do mathematics. The SHS students can do better than Afari Gyan who added 27 plus 0 equal to 270 to rig elections for the NDC at Finger of GOD polling station in Accra. With that we want Kyinkyinga Muntaka to keep quiet at Asawase-Kumasi.
