The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has sworn to match the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) "boot for boot" if the violence that occurred during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election is repeated.
According to them, the NPP appears to have staged the violence at the constituency as a dress rehearsal for what it intends to do in 2020.
However, the Minister of State in charge of National Security, Bryan Acheampong says the violence that occurred is not a dress rehearsal for election 2020.
Bryan who made his appearance at the Emile Short Commission of Inquiry set to investigate the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election violence said there is going to be an improvement in security during the 2020 election.
"What I saw and what I have been briefed, will not be anywhere near election 2020 because I don’t want to believe that the SWAT team are going to be conducting operations in warehouses near polling stations in 2020. What I believe will happen is that the security that was provided in 2016, will be improved upon . . . safe and sound for everybody to move from their house to go and vote," he indicated.
He further indicated that "we are going to work with the body responsible and the ministry responsible; for the general law enforcement of the country which is the ministry of Interior and be sure that we have a proper safe and secure election in 2020. What happened is not going to happen in 2020. It is not a preparation for 2020 that I have heard out there; that this is a dress rehearsal for 2020; that is not going to happen. It is going to be an improved security; we just have to make our security better…"
