Former President John Mahama seems to have changed his stance on President Akufo-Addo's request for the two main political parties to meet to chart a path in ending vigilantism in the country.
A couple of weeks ago, President Akufo-Addo, while delivering his State of The Nation Address in Parliament, asked the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to meet to find solutions to the canker of vigilantism that has bedeviled the nation.
He further asked his party; the NPP to extend an invitation to the NDC to discuss how to disband their respective vigilante groups, warning that "if they don't, he will initiate a legislation to deal with it."
However, speaking in an interview on Accra-based radio station, Radio Gold, the former President who was just elected flagbearer of the NDC was reported to have said the Akufo-Addo's plan is too 'simplistic' and that it will not work.
“I am happy he (President Akufo-Addo) is taking the initiative to try and resolve the matter but I think just asking the parties to meet and resolve it is not enough. There are several other stakeholders that must be brought on board. We have the Peace Council, security experts who all have to invited to the table to look at the phenomenon and what to do and how to deal with it. How are we going to delist the vigilantes who are embedded in the security service already? These are all questions that will bubble up and NDC and NPP on their own cannot resolve those issues".
The structure he is suggesting won’t work. Just to tell NPP that invite your brothers NDC to come and sit and see how you can ban vigilantes is too simplistic. There should be a better structuring of this issue and there should be good faith….It will take other stakeholders like the Peace Council to disband this. NPP and NDC alone can’t dissolve it," Mr Mahama reportedly said.
But on Sunday, the former President, who had earlier described the proposed meeting as "too simplistic", while speaking at the Perez Chapel International, Accra said: "I can assure you that NDC is going to go into that conference (proposed meeting) in good faith and it’s going to give everything to make sure that the objectives of these discussions are upheld".
According to him, "NDC as a party will uphold the peace of this country. I can boldly assert that as leader of the NDC it will not be because of NDC that this country will burn, and that is why we have accepted the president’s invitation to discuss the issue of vigilantism and we actually have written explaining some of the issues we think we need to look at..."
Former President John Dramani Mahama led an entourage to Perez Chapel to thank God for a successful primary.

Mahama cannot meet our PRESIDENT our the vigilatate groups because he is not the owner and nor chose of the owner of his Party. This is what the prophecy is slowly coming in the happening. The two parties will come together and rule like in Germany today then Conferderation will begin with the 16regions Ministers and Presidents of Ghana rotating annually/
This is clearly a man without principles. The "simplistic" approach that won't work is now looking good for Mahama and his bunch of rogues to participate? Even in church, he 1ies his way out freely. No wander the so called NDC elder of the Pentecost church could go as far as plotting to kidnap and kill. He endorses verbal assault on fellow Christians with cheeky ease. The church of Pentecost will prove how use*less hey are if they look away while this murderer O. Ampofo continue to parade himself as one of their elders
There's no difference between Peacefmonline journalist who wrote this article and the ***barred word*** and ***barred word*** citizens who are insulting the former president. Most people here only read headlines and jump onto the fray to insult without reading the content of the publication. Where's the U-turn? In the first place, Mahama didn't reject any invitation from Akufo Addo or the Npp to resolve this issue. He only indicated that the issue was beyond the NDC and the NPP. He wanted other stakeholders to be involved. Beyond that he wanted action to be taken to rid the security forces of these tugs. Those of you here who just pick on any ***barred word*** publication to insult statemen should be shamed of yourselves.
Indecisive Mahama.
To tell Ghanaians the gospel truth, Mahama is mentally and demonically sick. He needs the prpayers because his brain is similar to that of a women with witchcraft mind. God help and save us all.
Speaking untruths even in the house of the Lord. Shame unto you former president. You are a disgrace to Ghana
HAVE YOU FORGETTING HE MAHAMA SAID HE CANNOT, I REPEAT CANNOT TAKE DECISIONS FOR HIMSELF. AND HE BWANTS TO LEAD OVER 20 MILLIONS GHANAIANS. GOD FORBID.
I am not surprised at Mahama's behavior one bit. He is still INCOMPETENT and can't see or think far in opposition! Man with a WEAK mind
The writer of this story, as usual an NPP appendage, lacks comprehension. What is the difference between what president Mahama is supposed to have said at the Radio Gold studios and what he said yesterday at the church service? Untrained journalists, who are mostly family and friends parading as journalists in our mushrooming electronic media landscape. It's sad!
The man Mahama and the NDC has lost thier grips on the reality and has no political integrity anymore. Ghana deserves a much responsible opposition party.
