The Akufo-Addo administration has denied claims by the NDC that it approved the recent importation of a large cache of arms into the country.
The Opposition Party in a recent statement raised an alarm that the Akufo-Addo administration had authorised the importation of the weapons at a time the country was grappling with the threat of terrorism.
But in a shocking revelation, government says it can confirm that the Mahama Administration under the NDC rather issued permit for the importation of the arms before leaving office in January 2017.
Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah told Journalists in Accra that the permit was signed by the then deputy minister for Interior under the Mahama Administration, James Agalga on 5th January 2017.
Quoting from the letter, Mr. Nkrumah said the permit by the NDC granted the importer permission to import twenty thousand cases of five hundred pieces of shotgun cartridges, four thousand pieces of hunting shotguns and five hundred boxes of percussion caps.
“It is curious that after the election of 2016, two days to the handing over on the 5th of January at a time of the transition, this permit was issued on the blind side of everyone.
The minister however said as the consignment arrived; it was duly inspected in accordance with standard practise and has been delivered at a designated storage area.
“The state security agencies are ensuring that the consignment does not get into the hands of unauthorised persons” he added.

Ah there he goes again o, Ghana's misinformation Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah
Look at his face, only 36years and lies and propaganda has made him look like nana addo who is 76years. Quit the propaganda and look younger, you are fast deteriorating.
Pure display of fuulishnesss! Granted the NDC government allowed importation of arms into the country, for the past three years, are they still in power or you are in power? If really, you dislike importation of arms to the country, all you have to do is to seize the guns and compensate the owner whiles you scrap the authorization and prevent people from importing arms into the country. But to allow the arms and come and tell us that NDC allowed it smacks of stoupidity. Everyday we hear of NPP government reviewing various contracts so what prevent you from reviewing this so called NDC's allowing importation of arms instead of always using the blame game tactics. Is it not because Ghanaians didn't like what NDC was doing that they voted them out? If you think you are more competent quit the scapegoating and cancel that authorization, simply and plain.
Is it that you cannot read and understand or its just pure blind support for the NDC? Get someone to read the attached leader and explain it to you.
Objectivity is key when discussing issues that bother on national security. Ghana is the only homeland we've got and if we allow our politicians to mess up the peace we've been enjoying over the years by inciting us into war, we will all regret later. If you are going to hand over power to a new government in two days, what on earth motivated Agalga to approve an application that sought to order weapons of mass destruction into the country? These are questions that need to be asked. We should not play politics with this issue at all because it bothers on national security.
THIS NPP GOVERNMENT IS JUST A FUNNY GOVERNMENT THAT IS BEHAVING LIKE CHILDREN AT PLAY. THIS GOVERNMENT HAS BEEN ABLE TO RE-NEGOTIATE OR TO THE WORSE OF IT ALL TRIED TERMINATING MOST CONTRACTS THE JOHN MAHAMA LED NDC GOVERNMENT ENTERED INTO. AND YET A MINOR ISSUE LIKE AN IMPORT CONTACT CANNOT BE STOPPED. I PUT IT TO THEM, (NPP), THAT BECAUSE OF THEIR PARO*CHIAL INTERST IN THE WHOLE CONTRACT OF ARMS IMPORTATION FOR WHICH ONLY GOD/ALLAH KNOWS THEY (NPP)SECRETELY MAINTAINED THE CONTRACT SO AS TO HIDE BEHIND THE COUNTRACT SIGNED BY FORMER NDC DEPUTY MINISTER (AGALGA) TO SECRETLY IMPORT INTO GHANA "WEAPONS OF MASS DISTRUCTION" (PUMP ACTION GUNS) INTO GHANA. THE NPP GOVERNMENT CANNOT BE EXONERATED (ABSOLVED) FROM THESE GUNS SAGA. THEY (NPP) AND NANA ADDO MUST COME CLEAN IF NOT CLEANER.
Please, check this importation 2 days before exiting power and the differing number of arms above the allowed 4000 and you will agree with me that this has got something to do with Ofosu-Ampofo's leaked tape plus Mahama's "boot for boot" promise.
Hon. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah is a reckless liar. Hon James Agalga signed, permitting some specific guns to be imported into the country by M/S Yadco as per letter dated 5th January 2017. No problem. Questions on my mind 1. How is it that, a permit issued in 2017 is only now being utilised. Two clear years after issuance? 2. Is the arms importation regime not sensitive to the prevailing security situation in the country following the vigilante and Azugu saga? 3. Has this Government not issued any permit since it came into office? 4. The permit purportedly signed by Hon Agalga was for the importation of Twenty thousand cases of 500 pieces of "short guns" cartridges and 4000 short guns amongst others for hunting. 5. However, the arms shipment (consignment) that came in is said to include "pump action guns". 6. The point to note here is that, Short Guns for hunters are different from Pump Action Guns. 7. Where as Short Guns don't have magazines and so load up only one cartridge (bullet) at a time, if it is single barrel, a Pump Action Gun carries a "magazine" which loads in it, many more bullets for rapid firing, making it deadlier than the Hunting Guns (Short Gun). 8. Under what circumstances could the importer bring in something totally different from what they were permitted to bring ? 9. This dangerous variation constitute an illegality. Why is the importer not being detained and interrogated for that? 10. Could it be the case that, it is this very government that permitted the company to bring in the Pump Action Guns? Hence, their inability to take legal action against the "offending" company? 11. Very clearly, if the permit being displayed by the information minister is different from the consignment that came in, then he obviously is deceiving us by displaying the wrong permit/document. We have to be asking questions as Ghanaians.
Eiiiiiiiiiiii AWURADE what at all have done to deserve this from NDC. First Presidential CARS- Apaak, Ammunitions Agalga, Akuffo Addo trip-Sammy Gymafi, Refuges in Libyia-Ablakwa all lairs even in opposition incompetent. ABAAAAAAAAA MAHAMA u finished
