Almost a year after Matilda Amissah-Arthur, wife of Ghana’s late vice president, lashed out at some Ghanaians for their hypocrisy during the funeral service for her husband, the librarian has explained her reason for the comments.
She told Bernard Avle on The Point of View on Citi TV that, she may have been led by the “Holy Spirit” to make the comments while delivering her tribute on the day of the funeral service in Accra.
“I hate hypocrisy, I hate dishonesty, I hate lies,” she said.
According to her, although she had prepared a one-page tribute to deliver during the ceremony, she was moved to free her mind on the hypocrisy some people were displaying.
“When my husband died, it came to the fore how hypocritical we can be as a people because a lot of people who threw insults at my husband that he was good for nothing and he didn’t do any work and so on, actually came and said he was not just a gentleman’s gentleman but he was so hardworking, worked so well and was fantastic,” she said in the interview.
“One of the things I said there, was to the effect that those who know his worth, value him, stressing that, this one year has proved to everybody Mr. Amissah-Arthur’s value.”
In her tribute on that day, she said; “I asked myself, is this Ghana? Are all these people in Ghana because the maligning, the lies, the treachery, the wickedness, the deliberately changing things so that you could look better than others….Today I asked the same question, did people really know my husband. Did people take time to know him? The false accusations, the lies, the maligning. Did they know him?”
But in words of comfort, she concluded by saying her family cherished the late Kwesi Amissah-Arthur.

Look at this arrogant chalk woman. You yourself are a hypocrite. Get lost.
Does this woman know what she is talking about? Her husband together with the leadership disappointed some of us when the NDC decided to adopt PROPAGANDA as modus operandi for sustaining power in 1998. And propaganda is about half truth, lies, hypocrisy. That is what Sammy Gyamfi thinks he is doing. Propaganda is a double edged sword. You use it against a common enemy and think you have attained success. But it is worst when propagandists turn the arsenal on themselves. That was what the late Vice President suffered. While the introduction of propaganda was one of the reasons some of us left the NDC, he stuck in it till death. And how contagious propaganda is, I am sure the complaining wife also used it on perceived or real enemies. It is a self-inflicted wound. That act in 1998 made me lose trust in Rawlings and Atta Mills as well. I admonish the youth to refrain from this. It is the reason why our development is mediocre as a nation. We adopted propaganda and its deficiencies on critical thinking and development from independence. If you want further clarity on this, I can furnish you with my research findings. So the late VP died in his own blood. Any tears? And what lessons are the modern day propagandists calling themselves communicators, learning? I doubt.
Mrs Amissah is not a politician so we should understand her, simple.
the woman has exposed ndc and their evil ways against Amissah Arthur, e dey pain them big time
Amuzu, Paa and Togbe, go ahead mentioned what the husband did that affected ppl. She spoke her mind that day, and to me she spoke the bitter truth. I am sure all her lamentations were directed at Bawumia. We all witnessed the insults and disgrace your so-called icon Bawumia, raised on the late Vice President only for him to attend his funeral to pretend to say nice things about him. That was the highest level of hypocrisy I had eve witnessed in my life. This was different from what she said in the school at Kukurantumi. This one, she said it as it is. God forbid but let Mahama die today, you will hear the praises from Nana Addo and Bawumia. He would no more be incompetent and corrupt but and visionary leader, development-oriented, etc. Ghanaians are indeed hypocrites, and our politicians are worst.
SOMETIMES, CONTROL YOUR TEMPER A BIT. IT WILL HELP YOU MADAM.
Does this woman also know what his husband has done to some people from his PNDC days to today? Politicians are fanny people. they believe they are saints and others are devil incarnates. time will tell
Who listens to this bitter woman? Your husband is was just incompetent
