General Secretary of the opposition NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah has claimed Nana Akufo-Addo rejected the advice of elderly counsel to concede defeat after the 2012 General Elections.
His comments follow the Asantehene’s address at the UN where he said his palace persuaded the losing candidate [Mahama] in the 2016 elections to accept defeat.
But the NDC disagrees. A statement signed by former Chief of Staff said the former President accepted defeat on his own.
This has meanwhile generated a lot of controversies.
Reacting to this Mr. Asiedu Nketiah said "whatever the raw materials that went into the decision it remains that President Mahama conceded defeat . . ." he stated.
He criticized the fact that the NPP are being mischievous with this debate and urged his party Communicators to refrain from debating them (NPP).
He spoke in an interview with Adakabre Frimpong Manso on Neat FM's 'Me Man Nti' program.
Listen to him in the video below . . .
Response from Mahama’s office
A former Chief of Staff under the Mahama-administration has however refuted the Asantehene’s claims.
“As former Chief of Staff to President Mahama, I was associated closely with all the pre, during and post 2016 poll events. I state without equivocation that the decision to concede and congratulate Nana Akufo-Addo even before the official results were declared was taken by President Mahama himself without any persuasion from any quarter,” a statement from the office of Mahama said.

This Asiedu NKWASIE will never mature. How does not accepting an advice be compared to saying the Great King is a liar?
BELIEVE YOU ME. THE ASANTEHENE WAS NOT IN THIS COUNTRY NEITHER HAS HE EVER HEARD THAT NANA ADDO HAS A HUGE DISAGREEMENT WITH KUFFOUR FOR TELLING HIM TO CONCEDE DEFEAT IN 2008. HE DID NOT KNOW AND HE HAS NEVER HEARD ABOUT THE FRANTIC EFFORT MADE BY NANA ADDO, KWABENA AGYEPONG AND OTHER TO EXPORT DEAD BODIES TO THE VOLTA REGION TO MAKE SURE THAT NANA ADDO WAS MADE DE FACTO PRESIDENT. HE WAS NOT HERE TO EXPERIENCE THE WEEK LONG TENSION THIS COUNTRY WENT THROUGH BECAUSE HIS NANA ADDO WANTED TO BE PRESIDENT AT ALL COTS. HE FORGOT TO ADVISE HIS NANA ADDO IN 2012 THAT WAS WHY THE COUNTRY HELD TO RANSOM FOR 8 MONTHS. NANA ADDO WAS TOO WISE TO BE ADVISED. AS FOR MAHAMA AND THE NDC WITHOUT THE ADVICE OF THE ASHANTI KING'S ADVICE THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING. SO THE ONLY ELECTION STORY ABOUT GHANA WORTHY OF THE WORLD'S ATTENTION WAS WHAT TOOK PLACE IN 2016. PERIOD.
Sorry to say that the Ashantehene never force himself into polities but rather it is politician like John Mahama that likes to invite the Great King into Ghana polities .
Is the Otumfuo the one who decides who wins an election and who should concead. I think that chieftancy and this kind of posture should be taken out of our national affairs. He wants to force his relevance on us. He should stay within his kingdom.
WILL THIS ASIEDU NKWASEA EVER MAKE SENSE?
NDC always running away with the fact and won't to score cheap points. Sending your case to court does not means NPP did not hear what the Palace suggested by then.
And so what? When are you going to make sense for once
Ah...Mmmaa jacket Asiedu Nketiah, election with 1 million votes difference, who should concede defeat???? NDC is a party of no sense, low IQ with Babies with Sharp teeth. ***barred word*** paa nie....NDC Go away , come again no more, NDC go away for good!
But he did call or suggest that the Otumfour was a liar !
Equalization eh? Ok then this is a tacit admission that what Otumfour said is clean and true. The challenge of the elections at the Supreme Court in 2012 exposed all your kululus and tricks that is why the 2016 elections was spelt massive defeat for the NDC. It is hoped that this power drunk JM will be completely retired as a former former president.
