Founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Jerry Rawling has accused some leaders of his party of purchasing the power of the party into their pockets even though they know that their aim is not to win 2020 elections.
According to him, the said leaders are on a wild goose chase.
"They have purchased the power of the party into their pockets even though they know that their aim is not 2020. Their main target is 2024 when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would have been weak by then," he said.
Mr Rawlings said this at the National Cadres conference for the middle belt which was under the theme: "Effective mobilization and organisation" for victory 2020: The role of cadres”.
More than 200 Cadres from the Ashanti and Bono regions gathered to strategize for the party ahead of the 2020 elections.
It was a follow up to the Koforidua edition held recently.
Using a lot of analogies and without mentioning names, the former President of Ghana said many people have been rejected by voters in time past even after they had been advised that the grounds were not favourable.
Unfortunately, he said the same mistakes were being pursued, even though key actors were fully aware they were not favoured.
Mr Rawlings expressed regrets at the sidelining of the Cadres by the party's own Constitution but urged them to hold on to the vision and tenets of the revolution for a better Ghana.
"Some of these leaders are wicked, I tell you, he said.
Touching on a number of issues mainly narrations of things that happened while he was in power, Mr Rawlings bemoaned the monetization of Ghana's electoral process which he said did not help safeguard a just and accountable society.
He lamented the perpetuation of an imbalance society by successive governments and failing to prosecute wrongdoers.
Mr Rawlings said from the days of John Agyekum Kufuor through to the era of John Dramani Mahama, they have all shielded miscreants because they themselves take refuge in it, so they could not be prosecuted by successive governments.
"The domineering class should not be allowed to live above the law," he said.
Antwi-Boasiako
The former Eastern regional minister under Rawlings, Mr Antwi-Boasiako Sekyere, said the NDC was gradually losing its social democratic status and it was one of the main factors that led to the party's defeat in 2016.
Contrary to views expressed by Mr Rawlings, Mr Sekyere said cadres have a crucial role to play in ensuring victory in the 2020 elections.
He called for "collective energies and expertise to help the party win the next elections.
"It is time to rescue the nation from the super incompetent NPP government and build a brighter future for the youth," he said.
He called for a serious grassroots participation including house to house campaigning to rescue power.
The former Eastern regional minister urged the Cadres to back John Dramani Mahama to win the next elections.
Alabi
One of the candidates for the recently held NDC presidential race, Prof. Joshua Alabi, called for a united front as the sure way to win the next elections.
He said infighting and rancour were not healthy for they only lead to destruction

Rawlings always thinks of his pocket first before opening his mouth. such a person you want responsible ndc members to vote for your daughter to go to parliament on the ticket of ndc. why cant she wait for 2024 when npp is weak. is that morality. there is no difference between rawlings and kennedy agyapong of npp. If the situation does not favor them then everything is bad. IF rawlings represented the npp government at the funeral of Mugabe in zimbabwe what good will ndc expect from him rawlings. If ex president kuffour is weak and cannot travel then the council of elders in npp should have represented the government and not rawlings.
Because you so ediot, you can't even use a name that befits a human being. What sensible being will use this name?
No one should mind this npp man. He has nothing sensible to say. Someone who leads government delegation to represent npp, what love does he have for the current NDC. To him, if he is not the one controlling affairs then no one else is credible. He is doing all these to divert attention for his friend's bad governance. I advise all NDC members to fall for his bait. He doing this so that when someone goes and say something the the same person will turn round and accuse them of disrespect. This man when joy fm journalist asked about pds and procurement corruptions, told him he hasn't heard anything. But same person heard when Debrah responded to asantehene. He heard when kwame Zu was accused for insulting okyehene. If it is about NDC, his ears and mouth are wide opened. When it is about npp, they are closed. Hypocrite!
cant this man keep quite you are no more ndc member please keep quite
Papa J mention names and you mean John mahama and his national executives right? I know you don't want to mention names for his babies with sharp teeth that he has hired to attack and bite to come after you. After 2020 you will get back your party nut the harm caused is irreparable! ndc is a party hated by the people of Ghana because of their disrespect snd insulting nature! this generation of ndc are in ndc because they've been bought with cash into it not that they joined out of love for the principles and ideology of the party! ask most of them why they are in the ndc and the answer is money they ask their friends and classmates to join the ndc if they want to be rich hence they can't debate on issues but insults because they have nothing to discuss they didn't join to discuss issues of policies and visions they joined because of their own interest. Ndc is not good for Ghana
NDC should focus. Papa J please those leaders you refer to are leaders, they were voted to lead. Kindly allow them and focus on helping your friend Nana Adoo please. Thanks
