Former President Jerry John Rawlings has bemoaned the fact that some NPP appointees are still in office when corrupt allegations have been levelled against them.
In a keynote address delivered at a conference of cadres and activists of the revolution in Kumasi on Saturday, the former President while counselling the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to tread carefully in some of its actions, also took time to take on some NPP appointees stating that they should not be in office when serious corruption allegations had been made against them.
He mentioned the Board Chairman of the Ghana Water Company who was still in office at a time when serious allegations had been made against him over inflation of contractual figures and called for his interdiction pending the outcome of thorough investigations by the relevant investigative institutions.
Touching on the Ghana Immigration Service, Flt Lt Rawlings also questioned the appointment of the current Comptroller when allegations levelled against him years ago had not been officially investigated. He said though a court has ruled that he should be reinstated with his benefits after the Service failed to investigate the allegations within a reasonable time frame, no effort had subsequently been made to interrogate the issues and bring final closure to the allegations of irregularity and misconduct.
He said the Comptroller should have nevertheless instituted a probe to exonerate himself and identify those who were culpable in the alleged Chinese visa scandal. He called for a competent team to be put in place to investigate the matter however late in the day.
The appointing authority, he stated, can appoint some of the numerous highly-qualified senior officers of solid integrity while the pending matter is thoroughly investigated.
If the Armed Forces is on the march to ensure that officers comport themselves with the highest of standards, there is no reason or excuse for the other services not to do the same.
Any crooks and/or personnel in positions of authority exposed by institutional investigations as having been corrupted by the power and authority they wield, must be thrown out and treated with the contempt they deserve, before such institutions imbibe their deformed characters.

This same Rawlings when he was president cleared some of his corrupt appointees.... I remember Ibrahim Adams and co.... Rawlings is a corrupt hypocrate just like his P(NDC) guys..... He took $5M or $3M bribe from Sani Abacha and denied it until recently. The current Nigerian government must take him to court since he had admitted taking the money.
Rawlings took some 5 Million Dollars bribe from Sani Abacha and denied it for so many years. In a funny twist of events, he recently admitted that the amount was not 5 million but rather 3 million. This is the character who mounts claims to be the only saint in Ghana. Rawlings deserve to be shot like he did to others.
I said Martin Amidu is a leach. NPP must be weary of the Rawlings factor in our body politics. He is aware of the efforts by some people to take power. A statesman must act in a very civil and elegant manner to befit the office instead of dwelling on emotions. The NDC is a wooden gift to NPP. Let's watch them carefully. If there is need to explain to the public reasons why certain officers are in office the AG must please do so and steps being taken to get them removed. I don't trust Martin Amidu because he is just a tool in the pocket of Rawlings.
RAWLINGS ACTS ON EMOTIONS AND RUMOURS AND NOT ON FACTS OF LAW.CONSEQUENTLY, HE LACKS RIGHT JUDGEMENT. NO WHERE IN THE CIVILIZED WORLD DO WE CONDEMN ANYBODY OF CRIME WITHOUT A DEFENCE AT THE COMPETENT COURT OF JURISDICTION, WHERE THE ACCUSED IS GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO DEFEND THEMSELVES OF ALLEGATION MADE AGAINST THEM. I WISH SOMEBODY IN GHANA CAN HELP TO GET JJ OUT OF HIS KANGALOO MENTALITY FOR WHICH MANY IN GHANA WERE UNJUSTIFIABLY AND WICKEDLY MURDERED AND KILLED.
I now doff my hat for you. This is the Rawlings everyone had loved in the past. At least at long last you are biting both sides. Some of us were worried at your penchant for bashing only NDC former appointees as if there is none in NPP. It hurts some of us so much and made us emotional sometimes, because most of us have loved you so much even from our childhood. At your age 73years, you have nothing to lose saying your mind fairly as you used to do. I am not sure anyone can touch you because the teeming supporters of NDC are always behind you. What we hate it where you cut only us but not our opponents when they have been in government for close to 3years and so many corruptions have happened. I now advise all our foot soldiers and grassroot members who were worried to calm down because our father is showing signs of faithfulness to us once again.
