Yaw Buabeng Asamoah, Director of Communications for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Member of Parliament for the Adentan Constituency has asked the Communication Ministry to do all it can in ensuring that a sim card re-registration exercise does not occur again.
"The re-registration will help a lot but it must be done well this time around; once and for all. Indeed this is not the first time but I will plead that this should be the last time," he said while contributing to a panel discussion on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo'.
Background
Communication Minister, Ursula Owusu Ekuful at a press briefing Monday, said from January 2020, every Ghanaian would have to re-register their sim. This, according to her, is to clean the current registration system which has been characterized by fraud. The exercise is scheduled to end in June 2020.
“It is quite clear that the current sim card registration regime is deficient and fraught with many challenges defeating the purpose of the sim registration,” she said.

Kwesi i agree with u selling already registered sim cards to another person cuz maybe the simm is inactive doesnt solve the problem but rather create fraud in the coutry. i hear only 20% of the population has done their national ID so the 80% left when are we going to do ours? Mr PResident!!
THE WHOLE ISSUE OF RE-REGISTERING OF SIM CARDS ARE ALL SUBTLE METHODS OF KILLING BUSINESSES. I CURRENTLY USE ABOUT THREE SIM OF DIFFERENT TELECOM COMPANIES. THERE ARE ALL FULLY REGISTERED IN MY FULL NAMES. I DON'T THINK I WILL HAVE TIME TO BE GOING AROUND TO RE-REGISTER ALL THESE THREE SIMS. ONE OR TWO OF THESE THREE SIMS WILL FALL CASUALITIES BECAUSE I WILL JUST GO IN FOR ONE IF EVEN THAT IS POSSIBLE. WHAT THIS MEANS IS THAT I WILL SURELY DROP SOME AND PERHAPS STICK TO ONE COMPANY. MOST OF THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE DIFFERENT CONTACTS OF MY VAROIUS SIMS WILL MISS ME EITHER FOR LONG AND AT WORST FOREVER. SOME BUSINESSES WILL SUFFER FOR THIS
How can this be the last when you have not done the national ID Card? What information are you going to capture on the sim cards. What a waste of tax payers' resources. Ghana paa nie
have you finished with the Ghana card registration ,which someone of us still haven't gotten our cards and you are there talking about registration.getting tired with NPP.MY VOTE WAS WASTED
If you do registration of Sims and people can still purchased already registered Sims then back to cos 90 =0 . The best thing is to fine the Telecom companies for selling already registered sim . It will put them on their toes to keep data of sim batch numbers they sell to wholesalers.
