Kwesi Pratt Jnr, the Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper has backed President Akufo-Addo's decision to call off the referendum which was scheduled for December 17.
The President on Sunday, December 1, 2019, cancelled the Referendum over the lack of broad consultation on the matter.
He thus, instructed the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Hajia Alima Mahama who was spearheading the process, on behalf of government, to abort it and see to the withdrawal of the bills for the amendment of the Constitution, both in respect of article 243(1) and Article 55(3) and this has subsequently been done.
However, President Akufo-Addo has been criticized for calling off the referendum. According to critics, he had no right to call it off.
However, Kwesi Pratt speaking to the issue on Peace FM morning show 'Kokrokoo', disagrees.

This is a situation where the use of common sense is not common to all. We can disagree to agree on issues based on logical steps. Unfortunately we did see this exhibited by national house of chiefs, let alone the political parties. As an ordinary ghanaian the district and municipal executives should be accountable to the people they serve and not the president or political parties. lets grow wiser and not taller. There are enough evidence to guide us that partisan shiit has not helped the people. An example is fighting to take over levies from public toilets between ndc and npp. Are we growing to be idioots or to be responsible people who are prepared to take the destiny of our environment
