Members of the People’s National Convention (PNC) who participated in a demonstration against the proposed new voters’ register by the Electoral Commission might face some sanctions from their party.
PNC was part of the eight political parties who took part in the demonstration, dubbed ‘Tikusiya’, Saturday.
According to Henry Haruna Asante, National Vice Chairman of the party, there is a petition from some of the members to discipline those who moved away from the party’s position; which is for a new voters' register.
“There is a petition to sanction members of the party who participated in the anti-new voters' register demonstration, but the party is yet to make a decision on that,” he pointed out while speaking to sit-in host of Peace FM's morning show, ‘Kokrokoo’, Nana Yaw Kesse.
Meanwhile, the party seems to be divided over the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to compile a new voters’ register ahead of the 2020 general elections.
While one side is all for a new voters' register, the other faction which participated in the demonstration is against it.
Henry Haruna Asante says the position of the leader of the party, Dr. Edward Mahama is for a new voters' register,
He added that the decision of the leader is what is binding the party what all party members must follow.
"PNC as a party has a structure, and per that decision making starts from congress, then NEC, leader of the party; if the leader of the party takes a decision, it is final. Under what authority will any other person take a decision . . . the clear position is that we support a new voters’ register, 100 percent," he noted.
However, Desmond Nana Ntow, National Organiser of the party, speaking on the same platform disagrees.
He asked: "have you been able to speak to Dr Edward Mahama? Sometimes people hide behind names to do things which do not help the party. This back and forth is not going to help the party."

BERNARD MONAH IS A DISGRACE TO INTELLECTUALISM. IN A FORUM TO OPPOSE NEW VOTERS REGISTER, MONARD ARGUED THAT 2020 REGISTER WOULD CONTAIN THE DEAD JUST LIKE THE 2012 REGISTER HAS SO THERE IS NO NEED TO GET A NEW REGISTER. HE WAS APPLAUDED BY AN UNINFORMEDDD OR PERHAPS UNEDUCATEDDDD LISTENERS. THE ARGUMENT OF MONAH SHOWS CLEARLY THAT HE IS EITHER INTELLECTUALLY DISHONESTTT TO DECEIVE HIS AUDIENCE OR HE IS MATHEMATICALLY AND LOGICALLY IGNORANTTTTT. MONAH COULD NOT REASON TO ADMIT THAT THE DEAD IN 2020 REGISTER WILL BE ONE SIXTEENTH TO THAT OF THE 2012 REGISTER. THAT IS IF THE DEAD IS ONE THOUSAND FOR 2020 REGISTER IT WILL BE SIXTEEN THOUSAND FOR 2012 REGISTER. THE DIFFERENCE IS TOO HUGE AND THE CONSEQUENCE IS VERY RESOUNDINGLY ENORMOUS . IT IS THEREFORE INTELLECTUALLY DISGRACEFUL FOR A PERSON LIKE MONAH TO MAKE SUCH ARGUMENT.
