The second phase of “Touching the Base” by the New Patriotic Party, aimed at addressing issues regarding the living condition of members of the party has received a harsh response from some members in various areas.
The programme started early this year as an initiative by the NPP Greater Accra Regional Youth Organizer, Hon. Moses Abor, as a way of encouraging information flow between the party’s grass roots and the leadership.
As the national elections approach, the NPP seeks to prove wrong surveys from various institutions that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will not be elected for a second term.
The party’s G/R National Youth Organizer and his team of executives together with the NPP National Deputy Youth Organizer, Perpetual Lomokie Akwada, therefore devised strategies to reignite the members to ensure victory for the President in the December polls.
But Mr. Abor and his team received a hostile welcome from some of the party members when they visited selected areas to check the welfare of the members.
"Why are you people coming to us now? Is it because it is an election year?", an angry member yelled.
Others also slammed some government appointees for neglecting them after the NPP came into power.
Tensions flared up at some areas of Nima in Accra as the NPP members poured out their hurt feelings to the party leadership.
Hon. Moses Abor however assured the agitated members of better living conditions by the NPP and appealed to them to remain calm.
The second phase of “Touching the Base” started yesterday in Accra.
