Deputy General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, has slammed Major Osahene Boakye Gyan (rtd) for agitating for a civil war in the country about the constitutional responsibility of the Electoral Commission (EC).
He warned the Major (rtd) to desist from his coup d’état mentality as the 1979 coup he took part in cannot be repeated in 2020 under the 1992 constitution where the rule of law is the order of the day.
Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, Nana Obiri Boahen asserted that the comment of Osahene Boakye Gyan is borne out of desperation as he believes that all the glory given to former President Rawlings in the 1979 Coup D’état should have been directed to him.
He added that Osahene Boakye Gyan is no longer relevant in politics as he spent most of his life outside the country, as it took former President Kufour's administration before he [Boakye Gyan] was able to retrun to Ghana.
“He stayed abroad for almost 17 years. If President Kuffour had not become President of Ghana, Boakye Gyan would have remained abroad. He came down to contest for Chairmanship and attended many NDC Primaries but the stage where we have reached in politics, he is a spent force. Boakye Gyan is a spent force in politics in this country,” he said.
Delving into the activities of the Electoral Commission (EC), Nana Obiri Boahen without mincing words said the compilation of a new register for the 2020 general election is not negotiable as the current voters' register is not in a good shape for the next elections.
He described Boakye Gyan’s comment and other lawyers making such uninformed statement that the EC cannot compile a new register as ugly noise as the advent of the new coronavirus cannot be a blockade for the compilation.
"Those who are making uninformed argument like Boakye Gyan and ironically you even hear lawyers making this immaterial argument. They should stop making ugly noises that we cannot have a new register due to the COVID-19,” he slammed.
Nana Obiri Boahen, however, urged Ghanaians to disregard the comment of Major Osahene Boakye Gyan.
" . . If someone wants to do coup d’état in this country, it cannot be Boakye Gyan. Even Jerry John Rawlings is quiet,” he scolded.

The Boakye Gyan had never been a force in Ghanaian politics. He was a coup d’état puppet and was paid-off and settled with a scholarship to study abroad. So cheap he was! No wonder, he can only relate to the coup d’états.
