The Minority Leader, Mr Haruna Iddrisu, has asked the Electoral Commission (EC) to reveal its source of funding for the procurement of personal protective equipment (PPE).
“The Commission should tell the Ghanaian public the source of the funds used for the procurement of its PPE since they claim these were not provided by the government and these were also not provided for in their budget for 2020,” the Minority leader said in a press statement.
Mr Iddrisu was reacting to a statement in which the EC denied receiving any PPE from the government.
The EC had described as “troubling” a statement by the Minority Leader that the government had chosen to supply the Commission with PPE when doctors, nurses and other frontline healthcare workers were crying for PPE.
“The Commission finds it troubling that the leader of the Minority will put out information of this nature without substantiating its authenticity,” the EC said in a press statement released on May 11, this year and signed by its Acting Director of Public Affairs, Mrs Sylvia Annor.
Provide the source
However, in his press statement released yesterday, Mr Iddrisu said his earlier press conference on the EC receiving PPE from the government was in reference to a statement made by Dr Serebuor, the Director of Electoral Services of the EC, on April 18, 2020 to the effect that the EC had received enough PPE from the government.
“The EC in its statement alleged that they did not receive any PPE from the government. The question that the EC must answer is how it came by the PPE it claimed were enough for the intended compilation of new voters register.
The EC needed to be reminded that the Commission did not make any provision for the procurement of PPE in the 2020 budget as approved by Parliament in December 2020 since no one anticipated the pandemic at the time of the approval of the budget,” he said.
Integrity
Mr Iddrisu , who is also the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Tamale South, also said the EC should not blame the Minority Caucus in Parliament over the issues relating to the Commission’s integrity.
“Questions on the integrity of the EC and its leadership are issues of public knowledge and cannot be attributed to the press statement by the Minority Caucus in Parliament.
The exhibition of incompetence and lack of diligence and consequently the integrity of the EC in the eyes of the public is not and cannot be attributable to the press conference of the Minority,” the Minority Leader added.

Master your are making a mockery of yourself. You have made a statement you cannot substantiate. Keep quiet and accept your mistake. We all know the EC does not generate its own funds but if the EC has a budget or has funds and has used it in purchasing PPEs does not mean government has donated PPEs to the EC. If you should be told that Ghana Government feeds you and your family, will you agree because you are paid by the Parliamentary Service from the Consolidated Fund under the government. Keep quiet.
It's unbelievable when thi*eves ask for accountability didyour Charlotte Osei accojnt to the good people of Ghana about her office? what nonse*nse is this? do these pdople think they own Ghana or what so if they are not in power Ghana must die? they will go first, our grandparents sacrificed for this country and we will never allow ***barred word*** our forebears thought it wise to give them education to help build this country but rather have turned into armed robbers robbing this country and asking for answers why they weren't allowed to finish this country and have been booted out so will never give Ghana peace will also never see peace. The EC has no accountability with the ndc and ndc has no business askong where the money comes from because ndc has no land that has gold and oil, ndc has no land that has bauxite and diamond they (EC) if any ? they will account to the good people of Ghana who have given them the opportunity to serve them by overwhelming victory to the npp but not definitely not ndc. Ndc will rot in opposition !
What kind of question is this?, So as an in independent body like EC, never had an independent Finance Manager to prepare their budget where miscellaneous and contingency funds could have been earmarked for any unforeseen eventualities which is basic accounting where people we thought are learned and know good from wrong will go this extent by asking where EC got money for buying PPE's. Minority leader, NDC if the earth orbit the sun then Ghanaian shall hear your speeches when the tables turned.
Ghana's EC has fallen into abyss and when you fall into abyss, the wisest thing to do is to stop digging.
What is all this? Unnecessary press conferences upon press conferences. Double standard party you don't want the EC to compile new register but you want Ghanaians to go through the same queues to vote for you. If we cannot join queues to write names, then we cannot join queues to vote. Leave the EC to do its work because you are not a staff there. You can go to court if you don't understand something and stop these needless press conferences to save your image
