A member of the legal team of former President John Dramani Mahama has accused the media of unfairness.
This was after Journalists during the press briefing after the Supreme Court dismissed Mahama's application to reopen his case to enable him subpoena Madam Jean Mensa queried why the petitioner wants to get the EC Chairperson in the witness box at all cost.
Dr Dominic Ayine said Madam Jean Mensa has a responsibility of being accountable to Ghanaians and to explain why the figures of the 2020 election keep changing 'up till now'.
He felt instead of querying the petitioner, the media should rather direct their questions to the EC boss to unravel why she really doesn't want to testify.
"They are running away from giving evidence and as Journalists, I think you should be asking them more critical questions than you are asking the petitioner . . . at the risk of being petty I think you are being unfair to the petitioner; you journalists are being unfair to the petitioner," he decried.
Information Minister-designate reacting to this wondered why the lawyers for the petitioner feel the media is being unfair.
According to him, "you are our colleagues in the media we won't fight with you; we won't say you are not being fair to us or argue with you like they are doing; infact, we apologize on their behalf to you . . ."
SC ruling
The Supreme Court has in a unanimous decision dismissed former President John Mahama's motion to reopen his case.
Mr Mahama sought to reopen his case to enable his lawyers to subpoena Madam Jean Mensa to appear before the court and testify as a “hostile witness”.
A ruling delivered by Chief Justice Anin Yeboah said "we accordingly refuse the application and proceed without any hesitation to dismiss it"

Jean Adukwei Mensa should and must not be compelled to testify. It would have been malpractise if Justine Amenuvor had not litigated that phase of the case. The Supreme Court rendered the right ruling. To Ayine, the SC is not a playing ground for journalists. They (journalists) have no vote on the SC.
Dominic Ayine, you and your gang of deceivers haven't seen nothing yet. Your supporters have started seeing the light and the floating voters are also reading through the lines and your lies. You will be exposed big time by the end of the trial and you will realise it's not only the media that would be asking 'unfair' questions but almost all the people you thought were on your side.
This really weird, to say the least. Why should the journalists be the ones to champion Mahama's case in court? What options did Mahama weigh before heading for court? Why is he paying so much for legal representation but wants a journalistic backing? So surprising a lawyer of Dr. Ayine's standing would reason as such. Maybe, just maybe, that not everyone in cloak and bib, with a wig to match, who appears in court is worth that attire and standing!
They are not alone. Many, many others 'will be unfair' to that one.
