The Director of Communication (DoC), at the presidency, Eugene Arhin has explained the seeming delays associated with the naming of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs).
It follows growing concerns about the delay in the announcement.
Addressing members of the Presidential Press Corps at the maiden press briefing at the Jubilee House Friday, he said “the President makes the point that currently there is no vacuum at the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies because the old MMDCEs are still in office and on a day to day basis going about their respective duties.”
“So as and when he decides to make the announcement which I believe should be soon, I believe through the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development that announcement will be made," he noted.
He, therefore, insisted, “it is not hampering the works of the Assemblies at the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District levels so I dont think there should be any course for concern because work is still ongoing at the various MMDCE levels.”
The appointment of MMDCEs took a two-prong approach with the setting up of committees at the regional levels to vet persons who expressed interest in the positions.
Four persons each were shortlisted from the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies and forwarded to the national level where the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Dan Kwaku Botwe chaired the second vetting process.
The Dan Botwe led committee has since submitted its report to the President who is the final determinant for consideration.
According to Mr Arhin, the President will announce the list in the coming days.

Listen to the arm chair communicator, for three quarters now no common fund have been released , ie 4Q,2020 and 1st and 2ndQ 2021. All common fund projects are at a standstill, the MMDCE's are being tortured mentally by Akuffo Addo for they can't tell whether they will be reappointed or removed. I keep asking how the president will nominate one person from the list of 3 or 4 people per each district. What cretiria is he going to use if he doesn't know any of them. If you line up the current MMDCE's and ask Akuffo Addo to mention their names and their assemblies I can swear any diety that he can't. So asking people to apply for MMDCE's position was a wrong move. Why didn't Akuffo Addo ask same people to apply for Ministers/ deputy ministers/CEO's? Why only MMDCE's? Who told Akuffo Addo party supporters are happy with his choice of regional ministers? Akuffo Addo is making the NPP unattractive, if he indeed have advisors, they are not helping him at all or maybe he doesn't take their advice. 2024 will be tough. The solid NPP army Kufuor handed over is in disarray and yet the battle of 2024 is coming. I pity my party NPP. Too bad.
THIS IS OPPORTUNITY TO CUT GOV'T EXPENDITURE ON SALARIES OF MMDCES. IF THE GOV CAN RUN FOR 8 MONTHS WITHOUT MMDCES. THE OLD MMDCES ARE ACTING AND CANNOT TAKE ANY CONCRETE DECISION. SO LETS SCRAP , THE DISTRICT DIRECTORS CAN DO THE WORK. THIS WILL SAVE MONEY.
