The Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen has taken a commanding lead ahead of his close contender the Vice President, Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) gears up to elect its Presidential Candidate for the 2024 general elections.
According to a research conducted by Global Info Analytics, a renowned organization with experience in public opinion polling and data analytics, Hon. Alan Kyerematen is winning the NPP Presidential election by 44% against 32% by Dr. Bawumia. Other aspirants including Hon. Joe Ghartey, MP for Essikado Ketan, Dr. Afriyie Akoto, Minister for Food and Agriculture and a close confidant of the President, and Mr. Boakye Agyarko, the former Energy Minister received just about 7% while 17% is undecided.
The opinion polls further revealed that the Trade Minister, Mr. Alan Kyerematen who contested the current President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2007 for the same position is more popular among floating voters than Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. According to Global Info Analytics research, Mr. Kyerematen received about 50% of the floating voters with his closet contender receiving only 25%.
The research outcome was revealed by Dr. Musa K. Dankwa, the Executive Director and Head of Polling of Global Info Analytics during Citi TV’s popular weekend Current Affairs programme “The Big Issues” hosted by Godfred Akoto Boateng on Saturday.
Another Panelist on the programme, Sammi Wiafe, who is a Senior Journalist for Citi Fm and Presidential correspondent added that he has also seen other research outcomes putting the Trade and Industry Minister ahead of the Vice President and other contenders. NPP is set to begin the election of Party executives from Polling Station through to the National Party executives in the coming months.
Although the Presidential primaries are some months away, potential aspirants including other stalwarts of the party have been lacing their boots for the contest ahead. The NPP elects a Presidential candidate every four years according to the Party’s Constitution with an electoral college of over two hundred thousand, made up of Party executives from all the 275 Constituencies.
Hon. Kyerematen made an attempt at the leadership of the New Patriotic Party in 2007, capturing 32.3% of votes cast. He was first runner-up to Nana Akufo-Addo who gained 47.96% of votes cast. Mr Kyerematen made other attempts at the party's leadership in 2010 and 2014 but placed second to Akufo-Addo, who won the primaries. Mr Kyerematen has been the longest Trade Minister in Ghana having served in the same capacity under President Kufour.

Bawumia's candidature actually bothers NDC
BAWUMIA= PRESIDENT ALLAN CASH=VICE PRESIDENT. AGBENAA
Bleeding is allowed . Skin pain . No Alan no vote . Those against Alan don't have right spirit . Note that Ghana is a Christian country though l am a moslem Christians won't vote for a mosley candidate and aside that Bawumia is not fit to be the flagbearer of NPP and subsequently become president . He has lost credibility and has lied too much more than you can think of ......the rest is the Akyem Mafia will control him as their puppets should he lead the party and become president.
in what basics does these people conduct this. no sense in it. how does one compare Industrilization to digitization.
The biggest part of our digital transformation is changing the way we think. THE BAWUMIA THOGHTS.
Ghanaians should just know that there's no way Alan will have a chance in the 2024. get that in
Hahahahaha, wait and see how Bawumia will destroy Allan in the polls
The Issue between Alan and Bawumia is a struggle between Industrilization and digitization. It is characteristically a shift of global paradigm. Alan believes in Industrilization to create jobs. He is poised to promote Africa inter-regional trade. Bawumia is inclined to institutionalize digitization as a tool to reduce crime, weed out corruption and block leakages in the Ghana economy. One might ask of which of the two is relevant to Ghana situation. The answer is that we need the two for the progress of the nation. Ghanaians need to listen to Alan and Bawumia patiently and impatially to understand and contribute to the debate. They should sell their visions to convince the nation. We may end up buying both yet, we shall still need to determine which should become the priority. We need people with brains to identify and lead the discussion. Unfortunately the media is filled with the commentaries of people who have no idea of issue reducimg the debate to political lineage, and ethnic and regional permutation.
This can never be true,Alan himself know Bawumia is ahead of him.
