NDC MP for South Dayi constituency, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has questioned the decision of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to lift the country's COVID-19 restrictions.
According to him, the President has no sole mandate to lift the restrictions without parliament's approval.
He claimed the President's move was “wrong” and even amounts to him undermining the House.
The COVID-19 Restriction Act was passed by parliament to give the President the power to execute these Executive Instruments.
"If the mother act, which is the COVID-19 Restriction Act, says if you are not wearing a face mask in a public place, it is an offence under the law, there are no two ways about it."
"The government should have brought some of the amendments so that Parliament will repeal some of the provisions under the COVID-19 Recovery Act to give the President the mandate to reopen the country's borders," he said in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show, 'Ghana Montie'.
Adding that, "you (Akufo-Addo) are the one who came to parliament to say you want to close the borders, and we accepted it. If you are reopening it, you have to come back to parliament."
His comment follows the President’s 28th COVID-19 address on issues concerning the pandemic.
President Nana Akufo-Addo in his Sunday evening address lifted all COVID-19 restrictions after urging citizens to get vaccinated.

Som of our NDC MPs are behaving like kids playing in the nursery schools. Many Ghanaians have regreted voting such MPs to represent them as law makers in the Parliament. Very nonsencical arguments and waist of time for discussions. It was the same Okudzeto Ablakwa who had demonstrated several time for the up lifting of the COVID 19 regulations and the re-opening of the countries borders. The President in consultation with the minister of health and GHS and its COVID 19 Team have uplifted the regulations of the COVID 18 in Ghana. Hon. Dafeamekpor, please if you have nothing to contribute to the development of the nation, please dont open your mouth. Most of your political and social discussions is myopic and half baked political maturity. One beginns to wonder how you managed to enter Parliament as law maker. Ghana is lacking matured and inteligence politicians to work for the nations development. Most of our politicians are lacking the qualities needed to lead Ghanaians for socio economic development
I do not know what this MP is looking for in this country, almost every issue he will talk about it. Ever since he became an MP I have heard him more than fifty times saying he is going to the supreme court but he does not. He is too obsessed with the MP position and also he doing that to catch the eye of the NDC bigwigs so that in an unlikely event the party come to power he will be offered for position. My hometown is close to his constituency and he has done nothing for them. He knows no matter what happens NDC will win elections in the Volta region.
NDC can now be likened to "KONONGO KAYA". Creating problems everywhere and only thinking of their parochial interest. With God on the side of Ghana, we shall overcome every NDC agenda to draw the country, Ghana, backwards. Long live our Democracy.
Empty barrel making the most noise........ These (P)NDC guys ruled this country for 27 years with nothing to show us..... only noise. We are tired of you guys.
NDC IS EATH ON THE GOVERNMENT NECK TO OPEN THE BORDERS SUCH A ***barred word*** PARTY AND THEIR LEADERS. IF IT WAS STUDENTS CHINA BRING THEM HOME, STUDENTS IN UKRAINE BRING THEM HOME WHO DON'T COME ANYWAY. ASSHOLES BREATH ON THE GOVERNMENT NECK TO OPEN THE BORDERS MOW THE BORDERS ARE OPEN TOGO, IVORY COAST STILL HAVE CLOSED THEIR BORDERS AND YOU WANT THE GOVERNMENT TO ASK THEM TO OPEN THEIR BORDERS REMEMBER IS THEIR CHOICE TO LEAVE IT CLOSED ASSHOLES NDC. NDC IS SO ***barred word*** IS NOT EVEN FUNNY. NDC SHOULD GO WHERE THE SUN DON'T SHINE ENKOSI KOSI ENCODA ENCODA. SICK PARTY. IF LEFT NDC ALONE GHANAIANS WILL DIED IN THEIR NUMBERS.
OMG ! i am struggling to find the appropriate words or description for this man and his God forsaken party. Filled so much 1nferiorty complex. The likes of Djifa Gomashe has been making plenty noise about borders being closed blaha blah blah. Now that is opened, you come out with such n0nesense. Indeed there are some elements in the current parliament that are undeserving of being in that place to make laws for us.
I'm just enquiring as a layman of the law: 1. Which part of the act, if any, request the president to solicit parliamentary approval before making such announcement? 2. Does the president's announcement amount to the repealing of the COVID-19 Restriction Act? 3. Hon Gomashie, on numerous occasions on several platforms had requested the Prez to lift the band. Was she advocating for what Hon Dafeamakpor is saying? 4. Who enforces the law here; executive, judiciary or the legislature? 5. Should professionals sit and wait for others to act contrary before we come and demonstrate expertise? My basis was that we heard some MPs & others advocating and calling the Prez insensitive about Ghanaians who do business at the bother town, i dont remember anyone advising that the Prez should submit it to parliament for consideration. 6. Who advises the Prez on matters of such nature? Is parliament/ MPs allow to advise the prez and how is that done? 7. What's the consequences of the prez action, if faulted? 8. Should ''opposition'' always find fault with government on every issue, if the MP is wrong? 9. Whos disturbing the nation?
Look at what this chap saying. NDC and its members are lawless and they not only fight in parliament but undermine Judiciary. Bagbin-NDC Speaker who is a lawyer would even allow police to arrest NDC MP who breached public order Act. This is funny and no one should listen to him.
What at all should Akuffo Addo do. Please let us think.
