A Governance Lecturer at the Central University, Dr. Benjamin Otchere-Ankrah, has taken a swipe at the minister for Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto who he accuses of being so fixated on his presidential ambition.
He further accuses the Agric minister of being more interested in putting up billbords for himself to project his presidential ambition than planting more crops which will yield more produce to shore up the country's food reserves.
Speaking on Okay FM's Ade Akye Abia programme, he explained that as a minister for agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto should been seen to be rolling out policies and programmes that will inure to the benefit of Ghanaians, especially farmers in this difficult times.
"There are so many billboards across the country projecting your presidential ambition than your works as an agric minister. The country is in crisis. Prices of farm produce and food stuff are skyrocketing like never before and instead of relieving Ghanaians with pragmatic solutions, you are spending millions erecting billboards to project your presidential ambition," he fumed.
Whiles slamming the Minister for always patting himself on the back, Dr. Otchere-Ankrah admonished him to channel the funds used in erecting the billboards across the country into regalvanizing the agric sector and possibly import fertilizers for the farmers, since success in that field will have ripple effect on his (minister's) presidential ambition.
"Ghanaians will not hesitate to accept you if you work to approve your self, but trust me you will not even garner a single vote should your party decide to put you up as their flagbearer for the next elections.
"He is always touting his credentials with having outperformed every sector with the planting for food and jobs programme, but Ghanaians are hungry. Farmers are not getting fertilizer to buy; even the poultry industry is failing, yet you claim to be a successful minister who wants to lead the country.
"At least this is what you can do to help the president in these difficult times," he counselled.

Hated attack on the Minister All these shall pass The deeds of Dr Akoto is erecting billboards not him personally If you serve the country with good faith , loyal people appreciate you God bless Dr Akoto
This is unnecessary attack on the most credible minister Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto. He's done so well at the Agric Ministry and it's for this reason why Ghana hasn't seen any food shortage since 2017 when he took over. Oh yes, every politician has agenda so I don't see why he should be attacked for pursuing his political aspirations. Why did the lecturer sidelined other aspirants, he should come clear and stop the mischief.
I want to ask the lecturer a question. Has he seen Dr. Akoto erecting billboard before. We’re the billboards erected by his supporters or Dr. Akoto himself? This ***barred word*** argument. Is the lecturer a farmer? Does he knows what the minister has done so far. Does he know how competent the minister is? Has he ever gone to the ministry of food and agriculture to find out why what he is seeing is happening? He has no idea about all these and one day just started to fire back at the best minister of food and Agric in the history of this country.. That is stupidly. What even motivated him to fire back at Dr. Akoto when he truly knows it’s the work of the minister that’s why Ghana is still working by now unlike other African countries? Dr. Akoto is still the best Agric minister regardless. They don’t know that’s why..
Most Ghanaians will rather pursue their selfish interest instead of working for the country to develop. This same attitude from the Agric minister is the reason why Ghana is facing so much problems.
Doc, well said, the amazing thing is that he doesn't know he can't win even though the signs are clear on the wall. The current crop of leaders Ghana has at this time cannot see ahead of them. They can only see where they are standing and this is very dangerous for us as a people. Any leader who can see ahead of him should have known that any tax that can easily be avoided cannot be trusted to bring in revenue. If i don't send money through my phone i don't pay E-levy, very easy to avoid. Any leader who can see ahead of himself would have seen that free senior high school even though a laudable idea is not sustainable considering Ghana's finances.
