The National Chairman of the Progressive People's Party (PPP), Nana Ofori Owusu says government must with immediate effect stop serving foreign foods and drinks at State functions.
He appealed that every State function must have a local commodity and a zero foreign product in order to boost Ghanaian businesses.
According to him, the habit of serving foreign products at State-sponsored programmes is killing the local sector and is also one of the major factors contributing to the cedi depreciation and the gradual crippling of Ghana's economy.
Speaking during Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" morning show, Nana Ofori Owusu said; "They must immediately stop serving foreign food at all State-sponsored functions . . . when we do a State function supported by your money and you are spending the money to buy foreign items for those functions and you are supporting some farmer in Indonesia or somewhere with your money, it does not make sense. We are talking about solutions. You must ban it immediately."
He further stated that, "we must use only locally produced and drinks" for the school feeding programmes.
He added that full ownership of the digital economy and financial sector of Ghana should also be in the hands of Ghanaians.
"We must take firm steps to make sure that Ghanaians control the ownership of the financial sector; banking, insurance, pensions and others at all levels . . . all professional service agreements, architecture, technology, financial must have at least 25 percent indigenous Ghanaian participation . . . the digitalization agenda that we all support should be 100% in the hands of indigenous Ghanaians and their companies. The digitalization agenda we are talking about, it should be 100% owned by Ghanaians."
"We are talking about solutions. It is difficult; these solutions are difficult but if we do it, these are the things to transform our nation from a begging nation, a Guggisberg economy!", he stressed.

Don’t even talk too much because the hardworking minister is almost done with it. The minister for food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto is doing it all.. Kudos to him.
Interesting, when you see supporters of a football team suggesting among themselves as to what needs to be done for their team to win a game, bet me, the coach has lost it. When you see supporters of a football team putting pressure on the coach to substitute a certain player to enable them win a match, know that all is not well, they may not be coaches but they have common sense. They may be seeing what the coach is not saying. When you see ordinary citizens suggesting to a gevernment in power to initiate certain policies to take control of the economy, it's obvious the government has no plan, to say the least, they are confused. Listen to what someone said ' when i look at the economic management team- Professor Gyan Baffour, Dr Akoto Osei, Dr Afriyie Akoto, Allan Kyeremanten, Boakye Agyarko, Senior minister Yaw Osafo Marfo. What a solid team. Well said, fortunately all these people are in Ghana now and still part of government, so what happened to the solid team? As if the chairman of the team forsaw what will happen, he left his own name out. When you child comes first in school examination, he comes home to tell you his father ' I have passed, i was even first in class. When same child fails in an exam, he comes home to say ' father, the teacher has failed me ' . Today it's like Russia and Ukraine has failed Ghana in the exams, if Ghana were doing well, you won't hear zoo Covid 19 or Russia vrs Ukraine. Ghana is currently crying more than the bereaved Ukraine. Maybe we have to send the ' solid economic management team ' members to nearby Burkina Faso for the military junta to school them on how come Burkina Faso doesn't produce a milk tin of crude oil and yet still fuel is cheaper in Burkina Faso as compared to an oil producing country like Ghana. Secondly they should tell us the shock absorbers they are using to stand solid despite the Covid 19 and the Russia vrs Ukraine match. Currently you will save GHC 800.00 if you buy a drum of diesel in Burkina Faso compared to Ghana, what a solid Burkina Faso.
