President Akufo-Addo is receiving backlash for reportedly saying he's not sure whether or not 'galamsey queen' Aisha Haung was deported.
Speaking in an interview on a Ho-based radio station on Monday, as part of his tour of the Volta Region, President Akufo-Addo said: “I’m not still sure whether she was in fact deported. Or whether she fled the country the first time and has now come back. There still seems to be some uncertainty about it. But whichever way it is, she’s become the sort of nickname for all that galamsey represents”.
“We have concerted to work at it. We need to have the cooperation of the courts. Until recently when I came, the punishment for people caught was relatively light. [But] we’ve changed the law to stiffen the punishment for people caught,” he added.
Responding to the critics, Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah says the President was misrepresented.
In a tweet, he wrote:
Prez @NAkufoAddo has never said he isn't sure if Aisha Huang left Ghana. Please quote him well. He said he wasn't sure whether she was deported or she fled.
The reason for the President's comment is that there is a difference between deportation and repatriation.— Kojo Oppong Nkrumah (@konkrumah) September 13, 2022
In an interview on Newsnight on Joy FM, Tuesday, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah who doubles as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ofoase-Ayirebi said the President "was not speaking in a vacuum. There was a question about deportation and the President proceeded to respond that he is not too sure whether it is about deportation or whether she fled but then the substantive thing is this and then he proceeded to provide the substantive answer."
"I have heard several commentators suggest that there should have been more clarity in the President’s words etc. I mean in a democracy I am sure that we can always raise questions about the choice of words,” he clarified on Tuesday.

Hahahaaaa, Akuffo Addo spoke Swahili which no Ghanaian understands except Oppong Nkrumah so he has to come in to do the translation. Oppng Nkrumah, hear this, all t the schools you attended from primary 1 to your highest educational level you went and met people already seated in those institutions so you are a far junior in everything in Ghana. Continue to do the translation. I believe Oppong Nkrumah knows Akuffo Addo more than his (Akuffo Addo's) wife. Continue to tickle yourself and laugh, By the 10 December,2024 you would have known that all that you have been saying, Ghanaians heard you but they were not listening. A boy coming to tell men the difference between deportation and repatriation. Hmnn
Is the President an immigration officer to know all data on deportees? What country koraa abe this. aaaaba.
Oppong Nkrumah as for this one stop, just stop there. The president exposed himself by letting Ghanaians know he's not on top of issues. A president who is on top of issues should know what is currently trending in his country and in granting interviews he should expect a question about Aisha Huang thus the need for him to have asked the interior minister to give him a detailed briefing about Aisha Huang. From every indication the question took him by surprise. You i.e. Oppong Nkrumah was sitting right behind the president in the studio, your demeanor changed immediately the president goofed, you were not expecting such a P-one-nic answer from your boys. Under normal circumstances it's a surbodinate who goofs for a superior officer to come in to set the records straight. For a surbodinate or a minister to come in to correct a president simply means that president is not aware of what is happening around him. It's like Ghana is on autopilot under your boss. Simply put he doesn't come any where near where Ghanaians thought him to be. His everyday plunders are too too P-one-nic. Any president who actually gets constant briefings from his appointees will not act ignorantly. What ever explanation you offer on this issue, bet me Ghanaians will hear but they won't listen. Truth be told, your boss is a confused president. Any JHS pupil going for an interview on current affairs in Ghana would have prepared on Aisha Huang.
So you mean to say that we didn't understand what the President said in plain language but you; so you've come to explain because you speak English. Welcome.
