Dr. Benjamin Otchere-Ankrah, a Governance Lecturer at the Central University, has advised Mr. James Gyakye Quayson not to contest the Assin North by-election.
Mr. James Gyakye Quayson was ruled out by the Supreme Court from holding himself as an MP when the New Patriotic Party raised questions about his parliamentary qualification on grounds that he holds dual nationality.
However, the National Democratic Congress has indicated that the party will present Mr. Gyakye Quayson to re-contest the election despite he being disqualified as Member of Parliament of the Assin North constituency.
But to Dr. Otchere-Ankrah, "if he were my relative, I would advise him not to contest again".
The Electoral Commission has set date for the by-election.
"In accordance with Article 112 (5) of the Constitution, as amended, the Electoral Commission will hold a By-Election in the Assin North constituency on Tuesday, the 27th of June, 2023," a statement by the Commission read.
“Accordingly, the Commission will receive Nominations from prospective Candidates for the Election of a Member of Parliament for the said Constituency. The Nominations will be received at the Assin North District Office of the Commission from Monday, the 12th of June, 2023 to Wednesday, the 14th of June, 2023 between the hours of 9:00 am – 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on each day,” parts of the statement further read.
The filing fee for the election is GHČĽ 10,000 per candidate.

Is this guy really a lecturer and governance expert for that matter? His appreciation of politics is either shallow or just trying to please and catch the eyes of the party in power. Am sorry for his students and the university he works for.
