The Minority Leader in Parliament, and Member of Parliament for Ajumako Enyan Esiam in the Central Region, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has expressed his disappointment in the State of the Nation Address delivered by President Akufo-Addo before Parliament on Tuesday, February 27, 2024.
Dr. Ato Forson noted that, the State of the Nation address delivered by the President seeking to paint pictures of a buoyant and resilient economy is contrary to what the real state of the livelihood of Ghanaians is.
According to the minority leader, Ghanaians are not happy and that is the true state of the Nation.
He said, “Mr. Speaker, the state of our nation is hopeless. No wonder that ordinary Ghanaians including professionals are leaving our shores in droves in search of greener pastures.”
President Akufo-Addo, while presenting the SONA, touted the achievements of his administration.
According to him, the economic challenges being experienced by Ghanaians are temporary.
Nana Akufo-Addo said, “Mr. Speaker, we stumbled, but we are rising again. We were bruised, but we are healing. We have recovered our footing. We have dusted ourselves off, and now we face tomorrow with confidence.”
However, Dr Forson insisted that the exchange rate of the cedi to the dollar currently, has affected the cost of living as well as doing business in the country.
He added that, doing business in Ghana as it stands now is unattractive.
“Mr. Speaker, $1 is today GH¢13. Mr Speaker, under President Mahama, $1 was 3 GH¢3.80. Mr. Speaker, a vote for Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia is a vote for President Akufo-Addo,” the Minority Leader said.
He concluded that, “Ghanaians voted for the President and appealed to the vice president to support him to succeed. Mr. Speaker, the president cannot fail alone. The President will have to fail together with the Vice-President so Mr. President, you have failed with your Vice President.”

Yes, the country is definitely facing economic challenges. However to the the state of our nation is hopeless cannot be true. You, Ato Forson have received and continue to receive salary and all allowances due you as an MP. If Ghana's case was that of hopelessness , i doubt whether you will assured of salary every month. Let's do responsible politics. You were a deputy minister of finance under John Mahama when Ghana wen to the same IMF for a bailout, if that was not a nation of hopelessness , what was it? You were sitting in the ministry of finance when the 3 months pay policy for new entrants onto the public sector payroll was introduced. People who were newly employed worked for several months without pay only to be only 3 months arrears under your watch. That was not a hopeless nation? You were sitting at the finance ministry when businesses collapsed because of "Dumsor" ie power outages for months. That was not a hopeless nation. Hmmmm, in opposition , they have solutions to every problem. Give them power, and they behave like they have never sat in the four walls of a classroom.
why is this criminal not in jail already?
So Nana Addo thinks he has performed as a president? Very interesting? Ghana is better off without a president as we speak. He has no clue as to how to govern. Total waste!
SOME ONE WHO IS UNDER TRIAL FOR CORRUPTION SPEAKING THIS WAY?AKUFFO ADDO IS A VERY KIND MAN IF I WERE HIM LIKE THIS MAN WOULD BE LAUGTHING AT THE WRONG SIDE OF HIS MOUTH
Vision less chaos see hopelessness yet they feed on the hopeless tax-payers monies month after month to feed themselves and their families.
When Prof Mills left a healthy economy to your JDM, he couldn't managed it and send Ghana backwards in everything (DUMSO) for 4yrs. How can the same person manage what you describe now as hopeless? Ghanaians are wise now! NDC, NEVER AGAIN!
Yes, Ghanaians agree with your hapless comment otherwise how on earth should a hopeless MP buys an empty ambulance for Ghanainas hospital use . NDC and their leadership are all hopeless characters experimentally Ato
