Rapper Tinny strongly believes that the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) can only succeed if management of the union is given to foreigners.
According to him, foreigners have the requisite qualities and qualifications to manage the union to the benefit of musicians.
For some time now, several industry persons, including musicians have called for a change in the leadership of MUSIGA with many accusing current president, Bice Osei Kuffour (Obour) of failing the union.
There have also been calls from musicians, including Sarkodie, Shatta Wale and Paedae of R2Bees, for D-Black to become the president of MUSIG).
They believe that he will be a better president than Obour whom they alleged is not seeking the welfare musicians.
D-Black in an interview on Joy FM said: “The body that is responsible for welfare of musicians [is] not doing [its] job properly. I feel like they’ve made some effort but I don’t think it’s enough at all. Very little attention has been paid to the welfare of musicians.”
Speaking on the same platform Friday, Tinny, otherwise known as Nii Addo Quaynor, revealed that he does not follow the activities of MUSIGA because of the current management. “I just don’t want to follow MUSIGA.”
To him, MUSIGA will be better if it is treated like the senior national team, the Black Stars where foreign coaches are mostly employed to manage it.
“Ghana music, I see it like Black Stars. We take huge amount of money to pay a coach from outside Ghana to come and manage Black Stars. We should fire all the guys at MUSIGA,” he said.
The ‘Makola Kwakwe’ hit rapper added that, “I think we should have people from outside Ghana to come and manage MUSIGA because I believe that their way of thinking is different".
"[For] Ghanaians what we think about is the tummy first.”
Asked if there is no body in the music industry competent enough to manage MUSIGA, Tinny said “I don’t know anybody for now,” neither is he interested in managing the musicians’ union.

And the foreigners who were paid huge some of money to comne manage the Black Stars what were their achievement or legacy? So far all the successes of the Black Stars in terms of trophies were made by local coaches so no wonder that after many empty trials of foreign coaches the Stars job has been given back to Kwesi Pratt and Tanko and I support them fully. Tinny not all of us have your kind of inferiority complex. If the MUSIGA has exhausted its search for a Ghanaian to manage it properly then I offer myself to return to Ghana and manage it for them.I am the founder of the ngo Humanitas Afrika based in Prague. You can reach me on [email protected] offer me a decent salary and let me turn MUISIGA into attractive and successful institution for you pure and simple.
I knew for years that this guy have psychological issues but never thought it is eroding his brains completely. You're a coward and a disgrace. You're ready for foreigners to take over a Ghanaian institution just because people like you have no brains to run it effectively. Your action, gentleman is from bad upbringing and kubolo mentality
A foreigner is not a Ghanaian therefore by inference a foreigner would seek the interest of his country first and not Ghana. The solution to the problems plaguing Musiga is not outsourcing management to foreigners but building internal capacity.
This young man Tinny may have a point but he should also pause and start asking the critical questions before making such statements! What is the goal of MUSIGA? What should the president of MUSIGA be doing and why should he be changed and for WHOM? Why does he think a foreigner could do a better job and what will the foreigner be expected to achieve? Maybe MUSIGA doesn't need a coach at all if the goal of the Union is clearly defined. Musiga today is more of a corporate body that seeks to do business with anyone. Sure it makes profits and those who run it feel the profits belongs to them ( The President and the administration) You get a service done for you as a member which you pay heavily for. It is not meant for just any musician! No! it is for those who subscribe to its services which is not cheap! Unfortunately however, the government of Ghana recognizes the Union as the only credible business partner and so even when the nation needs musicians to volunteer to help lift the nation, they still consult MUSIGA who mediates on behalf of the musicians. Because, their fees are high, they do not have that many subscribed musicians. So they go out there to do a deal. They pay those who accept their offers and the rest of the money is cool chop!! This is what happened during the Ghana at 60 and beyond concert. The government paid 150,000.00 Ghana Cedis for a badly organized show and the musicians just kept quiet. Nobody seemed to be boarded. So the problem is that, All along, musicians helped to create the Union but it has been hijacked by a few individuals what Gyedu Blay Ambolley calls the Mafiorism. Somehow, Ghanaian musicians don't need nobody from outside to run it for then but that they streamline the goals of the Union and write a constitution that makes it difficult for individuals to interpret to serve their own personal interest than to serve the broad musical body.
