Ghana’s popular dancehall artiste Samini wants marijuana or weed to be decriminalized since it has the potential to boost the country’s economy.
The “Linda” hitmaker confessed he smokes the illegal substance but does so in private. However, the award-winning artiste is pushing for marijuana to be legalized.
“I smoke weed,” the Best African Act at the 2006 MOBO Awards told Bola Ray on Starr Chat, Wednesday, August 16, 2017.
He opined: “I know it’s illegal. Whether I do or not… I do it in my current privacy. I don’t smoke cigarette.”
“I wouldn’t say yes or no because it depends on my mood,” Samini remarked when pressed whether he still smokes the substance or otherwise.
However, he recalled that “I smoked weed in Seattle – because it is legal there” this year.
“Ghana should decriminalize weed and give farmers the license to grow weed since it does well on our soil and allow them to export the substance.
“We can ban it for people not to smoke on the streets, but a farmer with a good soil can be encouraged to package and export,” the one-time Artiste of the Year suggested.
It is illegal to smoke or grow marijuana in Ghana without lawful permit.

If just a the state of California that is one out of the 52 state here in the USA mad over 28 billion dollars out marijuana sale tax then I will strongly advise the govt of Ghana to look at the economic benefit it will bring to the nation since our land is more fertile than that of the USA.
Why are you pretending you didn't hear the whole song? He said don't mix weed & akpeteshie! He never said don't do weed. "wo pe nso a hye na gyae akpeteshie, emfa mbo mu anye saa eba ha wo' Get your facts right!
***barred word***,bcos u smoke wee it shd be legalised.Who do u think u are?Do u know u like a ***barred word***?It's ur wee smoking that has made u so.Go on smoking it till u start stripping naked on d strrets.
@ Kojo: Is it not this same Samini who composed a song in twi with the lyrics "Jai shi na nom akpeteshi" translated as "stop smoking and drink akpeteshie" in it?. Why is he telling us today he doesnt believe in what he said and yo also go ahead and defend him. We should be very discerning else, these so called "celebrities" would lead us into a ditch.
I do not smoke or drink, they are not my thing but i admire the boldness and honesty of Samini and Kwaw. Too many hypocrites in Ghana. It is totally absurd and unthinkable that poisons like alcohol and cigarettes are legal and in the case of alcohol, openly advertised yet Marijuana is illegal. It makes no sense considering the harm and damages alcohol and cigarettes does to our youths and society. The notion that Marijuana causes mental disorder is not backed by scientific proof. In any case what about the damage alcohol does to the body and also to the mind. Even more mind boggling is that the cancer causing cigarette is also legal. Someone should tell me just one side effect of marijuana, just one. And yet people freely take the other two poisons with no consequences and just the possession of marijuana gets you 10 years behind bars. We dont think, we allow people to impose their thoughts on us. You fear what you shouldnt and embrace what you should fear. Most of the people criticizing Samini are drunkards, you can tell from their comments.
Phooolishness is what is leading u, even if the presiddent decide to smoke it we wont legalize it for ur selfish interest to destroy the youth. Why dont u lok for a soil land to buy and start growing some for yourself? You and kwaw kese are loosing it and i see Kwaw is even better than u
Okay...keep on keeping on, but just make sure you don't get caught. Smh!
Because you are smoking it Ghana should legalise it,
